Between the One Nation lines

Pauline Hanson released her party's tax policy at the Barry Jones auditorium in Ipswich yesterday.

Full story and exclusive coverage of pre-launch meetings with the party faithful can be seen from this link.

Image on the right: Pauline Hanson with Heather Hill in the background at yesterday's press conference.

Pauline Hanson on Channel 9's Today Show (3rd September): "What we are saying about our tax policy is that we are prepared to put it on the table. Let everyone have a look at it, let the Australians have a debate about it because it is not something that should just be brought in you either accept or you don't (like the GST)."

The choices they make

News Limited's Courier Mail showed their true colours again this morning.

Their bias against One Nation is so blatantly obvious, their unethical reporting so striking that you would have to be an absolute dill not to see it - but there again maybe I'm being too simplistic - a tag One Nation members are labeled with by News Limited.

Firstly, this is how The Courier Mail treats "muck" raked up on One Nation:

On Tuesday this week, you might recall, the Courier Mail's one-sided story was about the dismissal of Debbie Beavan, the One Nation state media adviser who leaked information to the press gallery, was front page news. The story accompanied by a feel-good pic of Debbie, husband and baby daughter. Having Mrs Beavan in the One Nation office was like having the press gallery working from the office.

There have also been some interesting and confidential documents which have some fallen off the back of One Nation leader Bill Feldman's desk right onto the desk of The Courier Mail editor since her dismissal. Mrs Beavan, surprise, surprise, now works for Queensland Newspapers (owners of that paper).

Secondly, this is how The Courier Mail treats "muck" raked up on the Laboral factions:

In today's paper a page nine single column article about 25cm long is headed "Hacker prank "taints" Beazley". It goes without saying that if the hacker had been myself or someone from within One Nation, just like Beavan, the story would be front page stuff accompained by lots of huffing and puffing.

In the hacker story there are plenty of comments from Beazley such as, "The person who was offering that advice or may well have been offering that advice - we're not absolutely certain - has been dismissed." The person spreading the access codes to hack into the Liberal site web pages being a staffer in Beazley's office. "I, above all, don't want to run a campaign which is in any way tainted," Beazley said. This after links from the Liberal site took visitors to pornographic web sites after the hacking by a person known by the Labor party staffer.

It was ALP campaign manager Gary Gray who dismissed the Beazley staffer, Paul Gill, after he distributed the information on Monday.

There are no comments or opinions from people in the on-line business. Just a clinical hatchet job by the paper minimising damage.

Furthermore:

Unlike the tales from the ex-One Nation media adviser this hacker story has run its course. Negative One Nation stories trend into new territory as they are regurgitated time and again with subtle twists and turns.

Thirdly, this is how The Courier Mail treats a Laboral faction tax policy launch:

In the case of both Liberal and Labour factions - front page coverage with no assessment of what is being said or claimed. Facts and figures simply regurgitated from press releases for several pages with plenty of statements from party leaders and their selected, supporting commentators.

Fourthly, this is how The Courier Mail treats a One Nation tax policy launch:

Relegated to a number of short denigrating articles on page ten of today's paper. Prime spot on the front page being left to a real hum-dinger of a story about a "Cash bonus for rural doctors a shot in the arm".

For a policy promise which financialy affects maybe fifty people at max in this state the positioning of this front page story supported by a number of comments by John Howard, Dr Michael Woodridge and a Charleville doctor (who is pictured sitting on stairs) needs no further explanation.

The page ten stories on One Nation's tax policies are full of statements by detractors of the policy under headings, "One Nation's notions of tax fall flat on any account" and "Policy would kill economy: accountants". The stories are backed up with a denegrating editorial saying that the "flat tax would never work".

In summary this is how it works at Murdoch's Courier Mail:

I will be talking on Radio National on the ABCs Background Briefing (792AM in Queensland) at 9am on Sunday morning, The subject is "Why do Australians no longer trust what they read in the media".

Need I say anymore?

Dear Racewatcher no 110361

Yesterday you mentioned how you found a loans program that you believe to be racist in the way it is set up.

I'm sorry old son, but if you study the Anti-Discrimination Acts (both Federal and State), you will find that their are many EXEMPTIONS for A.T.S.I. people. Employment is another area in which exemptions apply.

These Acts are supposed to be about making a "fairer playing-field" for all Australians. Unfortunately, most of us know that they produced the opposite effect. Rather than focusing on the needs of individuals, these Acts just placed whole races and cultures into categories.

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious:- "anti-discrimination Acts that promote discrimination".

Anyway, for being sensible enough to see this and also being brave enough to mention it, you will no doubt be branded a racist. (Betcha end up being Ex-racewatcher no. 110361)

Subject: What?

Can u tell me how racism is assisting in world peace?

why one a group of ppl with different ethnic or social backgrounds should be refused entry into a country when not that long ago (7 yrs) my family, white middle class, was apcepted? What is the difference between myself and another human of asian decent. I'll tell u what. They have different skin colours and different beliefs. should this decide the future for these ppl. I think not.

Please feel free to reply with the "one nation" point of veiw as it is often distorted by the media. I would be very interested to know ur side of the story.

Subject: NAB boss

National Australia Bank chief honcho Don Argus is a confused man. On Wednesday he said voter alienation as expressed in the rise of One Nation risked winding back the progress of market deregulation, and threatened government stability. He said it was worrying that Australia appeared to be moving against the trend towards free market philosophies.

In the same breath he said that Australia has become a 'corporate supermarket' for overseas predators. As well, our slumping dollar and rocky share markets were combining to put even major companies at risk of acquisition.

Well fancy that! Surely he knows these takeovers by overseas predators are the eminently predictable results of the free market philosophies he espouses? Surely? Maybe not. After all he finds the push to renewed regulation "puzzling", given Australia's real growth in living standards. Yep, that what he said, though the only people with rising living standards are corporate bosses and ex-prime ministers who somehow have managed to retire from public office as millionaires (Hazel and Anita must have been frugal housewives).

Dear John

You may not recall the time, but I met you at Ryde RSL Club back in 1994.

I told you then to listen to the people and that you would win leadership of the party and government.

I may just be a local pharmacist but I can assure you that I have the ear of the people.

Either listen to their worries and do something or you will not be remembered as a good P.M.

Pauline Hanson has tapped in to the "feelings" of the people and may well control the Senate.

At the very least do not denigrate a commoner who only has the best interests of the people at heart.

The press at best are a pack of uneducated mongrels controlled by a few. If you actually tax some of these press barons, maybe they will sell off some of their empire and allow true competition.

One day the people will get sick of syncophants are get rid of the lot of you.

It has happened before.

Subject: Family law and Child Support Agency

Dear Editor,

Well Father’s Day is approaching and I would like to point out some anomalies that do not usually get published by newspapers. I sincerely hope that you will be able to publish my letter.

A heartfelt appeal – Think about lonely dads

Most children around the country will be able to make a Father’s Day a happy moment for their father.

Spare a thought on Father’s Day, for the thousands of dads around the country who will spend their day desperately sad, lonely and frustrated.

Simply through no fault of their own or their children, but because their babies have been taken away from them by the Family Court.

For most of these fathers this day is most depressive. Like all fathers, they will put on a brave face and get on with life, but inside they are falling apart through pain and despair. It is no wonder that some will hit the bottle, take anti-depressants or simply just sit in their room and cry.

And yes, some will commit suicide. Father’s Day is very bad day for male suicides. The pain and anguish for some is just too much.

All this because Family Court clings to its standard approach that kids should ‘reside’ with one parent (usually the mother) and just have contact with the other. It is even worse that the Family Court says this is in “the best interests of the children”. Not to mention the ‘gestapo tactics’ used by the Child Support Agency. Divorced father has no rights, no means of appeal, just being dispensable.

Both the Labour and Liberal parties had failed to properly overhaul the system for the benefit of all, not just one side.

It is no wonder that these same fathers are turning to One Nation Party for support and a voice.

“Happy Father’s Day”

Subject: Land Rights

Dear Sir,

I am a first generation Australian and fiercely proud of our country and it's beliefs.

I took my family for a trip to the country around Alice Springs and received a bit of a shock at the impact the land rights legislation is having upon this country.

Firstly when in designated aboriginal owned tourist resorts like Uluru we were appalled to see the distinct lack of indigineous Australians in the area. When we went to the more remote sites where there were communities established we were further appalled by the lack of pride and care for the environment by these so called protectors of our land.

We visited one of the truly unique sights in central Australia at Palm Valley where the ranger (white) gave a brilliant talk to the camping guests about how this valley was established. Our compliments to the Parks and Wildlife personnel for a superb cultural and educational offering.

What made an impression on me was the description of how the palms in this location were not transported but remnants of a period many millions of years ago. Because of a quirk of geology the conditions necessary to sustain them remained in this valley enabling them to survive throughout the centuries.

Likewise our Aboriginals after coming to what we now call Australia became stranded as the continents separated and whereas,in the rest of the world people were forced to develop or perish, Aboriginals survived through their isolation until the arrival of the first settlers. Whereas I felt a distinct sympathy with a culture thus threatened I cannot condone the now reverse discrimination that is being heaped upon these peoples.

I feel that now the next generation of Australians like my children are being positively discriminated against by the spokespeople of a minority group. My family bears no grudge to these people and feels no guilt as we did not mistreat them so why should my children be disadvantaged by actions of generations ago.

As many new migrants have said the beauty of Australia is that old prejudices can be left behind. I for one am delighted that the prejudices against me in my youth have been dispelled. Let us not generate a new set by elevating a minority group with undeserved privileges.

I believe Palm valley is destined to become the latest "sacred sight". It would be very fitting to have this sight kept free for ALL Australians to revere.

Yours sincerely,

A Kalatzis

Subject: Encouragement

Stick with it Pauline. Much of what you say makes sense and many, many of us out here support you. I like your tax plan. It makes much more sense to me than the incredibly complex and convoluted systems the other parties offer. More than anything I support you because you say what you think.

I'll give you a go in the elections.

Con Perakis

Subject: taxation and examples

Hi there One nation,

annoyed to find reference to your tax policy in a "quote of the day" section of the Adelaide Advertiser - but no other reference in the whole paper. Is the media trying to ignore you ?

However, I found your web site and hence your taxation policy. I cannot however find the examples / attachments referred to in the articles. Since these are of more than just passing interest could you Email them you please Email them to me ? I've less than 30 days to make a decision and the principle of taxing turnover rather than profit is - as you say - "different" - and intruiging.

Kindest Regards,

Ron

Subject: Democrats?

The Democrats have shown themselves to be anything but democratic. Their election slogan is "Keep the Bastards Out", referring to candidates for the perfectly legitimate Australian political party, One Nation. Nice.

Subject: 7:30 Report

I have just finished watching the 7-30 Report and it has reinforced my intentions of voting for One Nation at the upcoming Federal Election.

I hope there is a One Nation Representative for my Federal Seat that I can vote for in the upcoming Federal Election as to my disappointment there was not one in my area (Brookfield, Brisbane) for the State Election.

I fully support Pauline Hanson and the One Nation Party in their attempts to "Put Australia Right".

Congratulations on receiving the $500,000 that was rightfully owed to you by the Electoral Commission. Hopefully now you will get your word across to the Australian Public without Media bias.

Regards
Gloria Mullins
