Between the One Nation lines

What a week!

One Nation's host server, Pronet, went into liquidation last Friday... without any warning.

During the last seven days we have reconstructed the 170 megabyte One Nation on-line resource, a mammoth task, on our new host server.

Canberra Column from Peter Mackay

Here is an extract:

For too long this country, this great country, has been sold out by cynical politicians appealing to the millions of city voters. Every three years they make their promises, and every three years the people forget about the reductions in services and vote for one or the other of the major parties. Well, it's ordinary people who are supporting Pauline Hanson, and not one of the executive members imagined that they would have such enormous media interest this time a year ago. None of them are the sort of professional politician we have grown accustomed to. None of them have served their time in smoke-filled backrooms, or gone from law school to parliament. Like Pauline Hanson, fish and chip shop lady, we are all everyday people with everyday jobs and interests.

We are ordinary Australians, in the heart of the country, listening and talking about a subject we hold very dear. The future of our country.

Yvonne Chapman - will she join One Nation's fight?

There is a good chance that the Mayor of Pine Rivers will take up the fight for One Nation against Cheryl Kernot, the Labor Party's recruit from the Democrats, for the seat of Dickson.

She said yesterday, "I've had several offers (for a federal seat) but I'm leaving my options open. I'm trying to make up my mind... I have to weigh up all these situations. I don't know whether I really want to go (but) I'm getting a lot of pressure on me to do something."

Last weekend Mrs Chapman met with One Nation to discuss the opportunity. It appears that Australia First and the National Party have also approached her.

My information is that she will support One Nation - but time will tell!

The Australia/Israel Review

Below are the contact details for the Australia/Israel Review, the magazine responsible for publishing the names of 2,000 One Nation members from a confidential list.

Their un-Australian action has intimidated a number of One Nation members. See You Say below.

The QANTAS Files

It is becoming increasingly clear that Qantas are being driven by a fiercely anti-One Nation leadership. Chief Executive Officer James Strong has intimidated Qantas staff and suppliers who have expressed sympathy for Pauline Hanson's party.

We are gathering evidence and will be establishing an on-line Qantas file which will become the cornerstone of a lobby to recommend that One Nation supporters (over 10% of the Australian population) use an alternative airline when flying. In the meantime I will be using Ansett, but only after telling Qantas (on their toll free phone 131313) why you are doing so - every time you make a booking.

The evidence we have is very revealing and should be of concern to all Australians because of the undemocratic behaviour of Strong in his position where he can and has intimidated both staff and suppliers who support One Nation.

Readers might recall that a few weeks ago Qantas called on Channel 9 to censor all references to Pauline Hanson and One Nation on their in-flight news. The official line was that someone in their media department had been "reprimanded" for making the request but the allegation is now that the command to take this action came from none other than James Strong himself.

Pat Dodson and the tax payers cheque book

One of Australia's most outspoken Aboriginal leaders, Pat Dodson, has shown the contempt that he holds for Australian tax payers. Using ATSIC (taxpayer) funds he has billed the Kimberley Land Council Au$81,000 for his "preparations" for a two day conference on Aboriginal land rights. The two day conference "Visions of the Future" is currently taking place at Broome's luxury Cable Beach Resort.

His personal expenses are detailed as follows:
36 days at Au$1,000 per day for "preparation" Au$36,000
20 days at Au$1,000 per day for "post conference implementation" Au$20,000
20 days at Au$1,000 per day for "preparation for a national summit on recxonciliation and native title rights Au$20,000
Facilitation fee at the conference Au$5,000
Total: Au$81,000

Expenses not included in the above are:
Hiring of the Conference Centre Au$3,000
Travel expenses for guests Au$18,900
Meal and drinks Au$10,000
Publicising the event Au$30,000
Total: Au$61,900

Now you might be wondering what this two day conference would achieve.

If the first day of the two is anything to go by - not much. The only thing on Dodson's conference agenda was a five hour dinner at which lots of food and alcohol was consumed.

However, a briefing paper from Kimberley Land Council executive director Peter Yu describes the conference as "having an emphasis on panel and workshop participation discussion aimed at achieving progress for resolving native title issues through negotiated agreements".

Pat Dodson recently received the "Aboriginal of the Year award". At the ceremony complained about the governments slashing of Au$400 million from ATSIC's budget - we can now see why the big spender was so concerned. Conference organisers have stated that the normal daily rate for preparing conferences is between Au$80 to Au$100 per day. If this figure had been applied to Dodson the Australian tax payer would have saved at least Au$70,000.

You say:

Subject: Remove me from Mailing list Please

Dear Scott,

In light of the recent Media hysteria and naming of people associated with One Nation, I wish to be removed from the One Nation Mailing list permanently.

I trust this will happen swiftly and I will not receive any further communication.

Dear Editor,

Locals will be entertained by the goings-on in the area of politics especially now that the National Party has opted for standing a Casino businessman as its candidate for the seat of Lismore and yet again denied the female half of the population an opportunity to have their views expressed in the State parliament, unless, of course, an Independent wins office.

A certain Tony Abbott from the federal parliamentary Liberal party is acting as the front man in declaring war on the One Nation party on the grounds that it is a secretive body that is controlled by a small number of people. He may indeed be correct but whether he will be doing the Liberal and Labor party hierarchies any favours by stirring up the issue is a moot point.

Undoubtedly there are many students of politics who will recall that the Labor party has its "faceless men" who dictate what its parliamentary marionettes must promote but there are certain too to be those who have examined the processes of the Liberal party and discovered that the grassroots branch members are very effectively denied any significant input into the decisions of the parliamentary Liberal party because their role is only to support the party's candidate and fundraise (perhaps the Hansonites learned from Pauline's previous involvement in the Liberal party machine).

Great emphasis on the level of "democracy" in political parties is it seems the same sort of myth that other organisations perpetuate - do any readers actually know of any body that is set-up in Australia which has not had its decision making process duly usurped by a clique or cabal? You know, government of the people, by the people and for (all of the) people.

However it is true that many Associations, Clubs, Societies and Companies have proven to be successful because they have had very strong - perhaps even dictatorial - leaderships.

Sincerely,

J o n M. A x t e n s
