Still off-line.....

Between the One Nation lines

Yesterday I had an unsolicited phone call from a Courier Mail journalist by the name of Rory Callinan.

He introduced himself and then asked to speak to Scott Balson. I said that he was speaking to Scott Balson. He then asked, "Do you build the web pages for One Nation". I replied "Yes".

He then asked, "I have been informed that the police are investigating you for a charge relating to exposure"...

I replied that that was the first that I had heard of it and that even if I wanted to I did not have the time to embark in such silly behaviour.

Callinan then confirmed that his "informant" had not left his name and that it was probably a crank call.

Incensed by the accusation I said to him "Do you follow up all crank calls in this manner or is it just because I am associated with Pauline Hanson's One Nation?" He replied that that probably had something to do with the instruction that he had received to follow up the anonymous call.

There you have it. Two sets of rules apply - even to those who are not in the public eye.

Sixty Minutes get it "half-right"

Sixty Minutes ran another segment on One Nation last night with perhaps the most balanced reporting that I have ever seen them embark on. The segment about the role of David Oldfield in the organisation did not follow the Murdoch line promoted by Barbara Hazelton and others that Pauline Hanson was little more than a puppet on a string.

However, as a person who does not trust the Sixty Minutes crew as far as they can be physically thrown by "sickly" Christopher Skase, I am concerned that this is nothing more than a "softening up" strategy in the lead up to the Federal Election and the less done with Packer's stooges the better.

Howard's ten point plan to be tested in the Senate today

The carefully worked out amendments to Howard's ten point plan on native title aimed at securing the support of Brian Harradine and stopping a double dissolution might have all been for nought.

We now have disgraced Senator Mal Colston threatening to use his casting vote to support the Labor Party in the Senate to force the Coalition into an early election - one where Pauline Hanson's One Nation could take a number of Senate seats and hold the balance of power.

Media distortions on funds continues

The Queensland Electoral Commission made it clear yesterday that they would not entertain Liberal MP Tony Abbott's much touted comment that Pauline Hanson's One Nation party was not properly constituted and, therefore, should not receive the Au$500,000 due to it to cover advertising and related expenses in the lead up to the State Election.

Abbott, according to The Courier Mail today, argued that "...One Nation was masquerading as a democratic political party but it's 'constitution seems more appropriately that of an exclusive club'".

Oldfield said in response to Abbott's claims that the "shame of it was that Mr Abbott's best parliamentary performance was based on unfair attacks under parliamentary privilege."

During that attack last week he referred to me in Parliament as the "constitutional officer for One Nation" - an appointment I had never ever been party to - but typical of the lies and distortions of parliamentary scumbags.

Migration Backlash Understandable

Here is an extract from the article by Peter Westmore:

"Growing opposition to immigration in Australia is one of the most perplexing aspects of the current political climate and deserves serious attention.

"The initial reaction to the rise of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party - that it was simply a repository for racists - no longer prevails, as many observers now recognise that many of its supporters have legitimate grievances stemming from the headlong rush to globalise the Australian economy.

"In the controversy over immigration, some important facts are often overlooked. Since British settlement began in 1788, this country’s development as a nation has depended on the people who have made a new home here. However, the inflow has always depended on economic conditions and job opportunities."
