That Oldfield article

Yesterday's article about David Oldfield raised a great deal of comment by phone, fax and email. Most of it was positive - some of it was negative.

Included in the feedback was a lengthy fax from David Ettridge of One Nation's Manly office, the thrust of the letter being, "Much of your @notd article deals in speculation which is damaging because you broadcast and give credence to matters that are simply not true. Your article has the potential to fuel further media attacks on the Party which will be damaging."

I need to make it quite clear to the @notd readership that my intent is not to damage One Nation and that I stand by what I wrote.

Perception rules.

I have dedicated years of my life for the party - not because of the leadership but because of the issues that the party represents. I am rightfully concerned that, to many, we seem to have lost our way.

The issues that are the basis of One Nation's support are now being driven by populist parties all over the world. Supporters need to realise that we are part of a global movement towards nationalism not some uniquely Australian fad that could pass into oblivion.

Here in Australia there are about three hundred groups whose concerns on issues overlap... these are disparate groups with little or no contact with each other. Some are large (like One Nation) while others are very small. There is a need to focus these groups through an apolitical forum where issues can be discussed freely. If we can unite these groups not even the media will be able to stop the growing move towards nationalistic pride and recognition of Australian values and culture. Pauline Hanson started the ball rolling - on a path which, today, has to become focussed and united. One Nation's participation would forge new opportunities and direction for the party.

The apolitical stance of such a forum is critical. The growing tide of people in Australia who share our views on issues have not disappeared they have just simply lost direction. We are at the cross-roads of a new political era in this country and that fact needs to be embraced and understood. There is a growing realisation among millions of Australians that there is a class war going on and that 95% of the population are on the losing end... When you have people like Steve Vizard pushing the Republic on TV people at home watch his smooth lines repeated time and again and quietly, inwardly, spew. They read between his lines and know that this is a big business and politicians Republic. The massive "NO" vote that will take place this weekend in the Referendum will be more a vote of no confidence in the political system than a vote against a Republic.

Let me repeat that - the "NO" vote will have more to do with a dissatisfaction in the political system than in the Republic debate. The general population, rightly, do not trust politicians or bureaucrats to do the right thing anymore. This referendum is a litmus test on how people perceive our system of Government not the Republic. With only 9% of Australians apparently supporting the Monarchy any "NO" vote above that figure will give a measure of that distrust.

Since the Oldfield article was published yesterday I have been contacted by several editors of major distribution independent papers. They have all said that they would welcome and support such an apolitical forum as it would take away from the unfortunate media-inspired stigma that has been now been associated with right wing political parties and re-focus attention on the issues.

Update:

I resigned as One Nation webmaster at 2.20pm today following a scheduled 2pm meeting with Pauline Hanson. While I remain committed to the issues that the party stands for there are other issues which I could not accept.

I received the following letter from David Ettridge at 4pm today:

Dear Scott,

I just learned that you have resigned as webmaster for the party and I want to wish you well.

You have been a valued and appreciated member of the team for a long time and I hope that you will continue to support us and be that familiar face at our functions.

I sincerely hope that you do not succumb to any negative influences from the group which recently surfaced on @notd that could lead you down their path to political oblivion. You have more to offer Australia and One Nation than that. Good Luck.

Best Wishes

Crown Land Under a Republic - Alan Jones

(Note Salt is a regular contributor to the @notd).

Here is an extract:

One example concerns this vexing question of what happens to Crown land under a republic. Now pastoral leases are the predominant title for grazing land, especially in Queensland and are an important part of land title in other states. One writer on this issue, Mr Kerry Spencer-Salt (ph.sp.), who I might add has an Honours degree in Law, points out that at the end of a pastoral lease the respective land must return to the preceding title holder, which is the Crown.

Now the republicans clearly intend that the states should become republics. So what happens when a pastoral lease expires say in ten years time if the relevant state has become a republic? Now Mr Spencer-Salt says that nobody really knows but he suggests two possibilities - one is that the title of a pastoral lease might revert to the British Crown, which is unlikely, but Mr Spencer-Salt suggests another possibility which seems more likely and that is that expiring pastoral leases could revert to native title.

The reason that possibility is very real is that following the Wik and Mabo decisions, native title co-exists with pastoral leases. With the abolition of the Crown there seems a real possibility that native title could become exclusive title and where would this leave the future of the pastoral industry?

Fast fact:

Prostrate cancer in men is as common as breast cancer in women yet receives only 7% of the government funding given to warning the male Australian population about this killer through the media.

Makes you think doesn't it?

Referendum follies

Electrical Trade Union members in Everton were going to man booths for the NO vote. They were given notice that if they got caught handing out NO vote cards their membership would be reviewed.

Beazley follows the pipers tune on the Today program. Watch the Murdoch media support Labor now that Beazley sings his praises over the Republic.

MLA Santo Santoro is looking after the booths for the NO vote in the Lilley area (north of Brisbane). When One Nation offered 19 bodies to help he turned down the request. Strange because there are 26 booths in the Lilley area which will have no-one handing out NO Vote cards.

Oldfield article

Scott,

I also have had concerns about David Oldfield and the amount of money spent on getting him into the NSW Upper House for eight years and then able to retire with a pension for life.

The alleged 1.2 million seems to me to be over the top considering we ran the Federal Campaign here in the West on what money we could scrape together in our branches.

I am rather disillusioned with the whole National Executive and the cavalier approach they have to the spending of the money contributed to the One Nation coffers by the hard work, generosity and dedication of all members throughout the nation.

We have been advised that the next WA state election will have to be financed entirely by One Nation members of this state with no help at all from the national body. This despite the fact that in the Federal Election our candidates did extremely well, and helped swell the coffers of the national executive.

Unless something is done and done soon to right the perceived wrongs, where money is spent without a thought to elect a member of the national executive to parliament, then I and a lot more will be putting our efforts and finances in electing an independent candidate who knows the value of a dollar.

As for Oldfield I consider him a lost cause and an expensive one at that.

David Oldfield

Scott,

I would like to discount your remarks about David Oldfield.

When was the last time all the queensland members of One Nation, that complain about him so often, actually heard David Oldfields views first hand? I can report that David Oldfield had made himself available to various branches in NSW time and time again (after all he represents nsw branchs) I don't hear them complaining about him.

I believe the QLD problem largely stems from the lack of unbiased media reporting in QLD. From reading your @notd, we get the message that the Courier Mail and the mainstream media up there in QLD are on the constant attack or blackout of One Nation. Well, who can the members blame?? Surely the QLD state exec can't be at fault, they are not bagged like David Oldfield is. Obviously the media bashing is taking effect, and of course Oldfield is an easy target.

I don't profess to say that Oldfield is a saint, but NSW members see him all the time, and don't have a problem with him! You raise the situation with the 5 MP's resigning "Largely due to the Oldfield Fracas". When Oldfield was quoted "are you all idiots up there!" with regard to the public viewing of the 10 points, I could not of found a single member down here that wouldn't have said the same thing if not worse!. This 10 point plan (signed by the QLD MP's) on the front page of Sydney's Daily Telegraph was the last thing we needed for our up and coming state election. Specialy when all those issues could have been raised at the AGM not that far away.

My recent visit to QLD and my conversations to people (in QLD) not linked to One Nation, told me that the public perception with QLD One Nation is that they are too busy fighting themselves. I tell all people in QLD who believe in One Nation, step back and look at yourselves. Wakeup and figure out who the real enemy is. You don't see what goes on in NSW, so how can you say the Oldfield is sitting around plotting against One Nation. Look at Hansard, he's been flat out asking questions left, right and centre, and they are issues all raised by One Nation members in NSW.

Scott, you almost make a living in exposing the lies and deceit presented by the Packer & Murdoch Media, but on @notd you report "He told the papers just over a week ago that he is considering a move into Federal politics... " now you didn't show this as a quote, you reported it this in way. I know you posted the rebutal from David Ettridge, but in the context of your editorial, you are speaking as if you beleive the Media report over the what you have been told by Ettridge. You hate selective journalism, but your walking a tight rope on this one.

Regards
Brian Zarth

Hi Brian

If you ask any of the One Nation MPs who were in that closed door meeting in Bill Feldman's office on that fateful day when Oldfield lost his cool you would learn first hand the verbal abuse that took place.

It was that abuse that was the catalyst to what happened later - including that infamous ten point letter that you refer to.

Editor

The ten point letter:

On this 3rd day of February, 1999

1.We the elected parliamentary members of Pauline Hanson's One Nation reject the constitution as presented in its current draft form.

2.All three members of the National Executive, Pauline Hanson, David Oldfield, David ettridge must stand down at the AGM and all positions must be declared vacant, so that an executive can be elected democratically. Any person nominating for the executive must justify their credentials and competence by way of Resume and application.

3.Nominations must be called and information on the AGM must be distributed to all branches immediately.

4.A Constitution must be developed including submissions from Queensland branches to a democratically elected committee, which will oversee a Constitution structure.

5.All Pauline Hanson's One Nation Federal electoral funding for Queensland must be deposited into a trust account which will be controlled by a democratically elected committee in the state executive to control distribution as required.

6.An elected committee should review all past members, who have been sacked.

7.All minor newspapers that are willing to support Pauline Hanson's One Nation should be given approval by an elected committee, who will also examine all literature prior to print.

8.Any pre-selected candidate must stand down from any executive position.

9.MPs must be allowed to attend the National and State conferences with full voting rights.

10.These points are not negotiable nor will any discussion be entered into.

Your immediate response, in writing, is demanded by we the undersigned.

The obscene ANZ Bank

On ABC Radio's "PM" last night I heard that the ANZ bank made $4 million dollars profit a DAY. While the shareholders are happy, apparantly it's still not enough.

One analyst commented that the bank is the worst performing of the four and that they should do better. And the Director - whose name I can't remember, but he spoke with a foreign accent - said that the Reserve Bank should have raised interest rates by 0.5%, not 0.25%

Why? Well he doesn't care about Australians paying off their homes. He equally doesn't care about Australian small businesses struggling to survive. All he - and all the other turds who run the banks - care about is the maximum return to shareholders. Foreign shareholders.

Republic Issues

Alan Jones raised the question of Land Title should we become a Republic.

Do all the Leases, mining, pastoral and other revert to the British Crown or to Native Title under a Republic ?

Does a Republic mean all crown lease land will revert to native title at the end of the Lease ?

I am a silent supporter of One Nation, this question really worries me I would appreciate your view.

Federal Court challenge

Our action against the Electoral Commissioner will be heard tomorrow, Thursday the 4th November at 2.154 p.,m. at the Federal Court of Australia in Sydney.

I may mention that we would rather some other organisation had taken this on. However, whilst many had been protesting to the Australian Electoral Commission on this matter, none was prepared to do more than that.

It was the same with the Australia Acts. Many opposed them but few were prepared to stand up and be counted.

We are aware that some Republican groups have promoted the use of ticks, but cannot substantiate this.

If there is anyone out there who has any evidence either in the form of an advertisement or an article, can you scan and attach it to an email and send it to secretary@monarchist.org.au by first thing tomorrow morning to enable our lawyers to file it in time.

Confessions of a Republican redneck

As a red hot republican it will be a truly painful experience for me to vote "NO" and "NO" at next Saturdays referendum.

What should have been the celebration of Australia's coming of age has been tainted by those in authority who once again have shown their absolute contempt for the average Australian.

Antonia has got it right, if you trust politicians vote "Yes", if you don't, vote "NO".

The time is not right for a republic, it can wait. We must purge our present system of government first and restore power to the people .

The Republic Scam

Hi Scott,

Just a quick note on the Republic.

The NSW Department of Fair Trading has just released a booklet titled "The Little Black Book of SCAMS".

Page 14 of the book states
"It's probably a scam if:
The person says you must take up the offer immediately or you'll miss the opportunity. Legitimate companies don't pressure people to act without time to look into the deal."

Now what was that the Republicans were saying if we have a NO vote on Saturday?

Regards,
Chris Fitzgerald

Republic

A poll published this morning in the ACT reveals that only 53% of Canberra voters will vote YES on Saturday. For the most republican polity in Australia (the ACT, unlike any other State or Territory, elected NO monarchist delegates to last year's Constitutional Convention) to have such a low level of support for the YES case speaks volumes about how it will go in the rest of the country.

Peter Mackay

Boat people

With the influx of up to 2000 boat people expected over the next few months it is about time that the Government took real action to stem the flood.

These people should be returned to their home country at the that country's expenses. It's all very well the premier of Western Australia saying that they should be sent home and then doing a back flip because the minister for immigration said that we have international obligations, to treat them with kid gloves.

This is another thing that goes to prove how un independent this country would be, should the YES vote prevail on Saturday.

If you are concerned about the boat people being smuggled out here then contact as many of the politicians as possible, with the message 'Enough is enough and really take action.' Peter

Subject: Filthy Pro-Fag media silent on fag-Murder of 13-yr old boy!

The fag-bias of the Filthy Pro-Fag media has been demonstrated once again by the censorship of the Fag murder of 13-yr old Arkansas boy Jesse Dirkhising. And yet the world was treated to hypocritical breast-beating and feigned 'moral' outrage concerning the 'murder' of fag Matthew Shepphard. A 'murder' that was, at best, a robbery gone wrong...transformed by the filthy fag media into a 'hate crime'

Here is an excerpt concerning the Dirkhising murder:
******************************
Sun, 24 Oct 1999
Joyce Howard Price
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Most of the nation has not heard about two homosexual men who face the death penalty in Arkansas, charged with raping and torturing a 13-year-old boy to death last month.

The brutal crime against Prairie Grove, Ark., seventh-grader Jesse Dirkhising -- who was raped repeatedly and suffocated with his own underwear in the pre-dawn hours of Sept. 26 -- was reported by news organizations in Arkansas and also covered by newspapers in Oklahoma and Tennessee.

But the boy's death did not receive national media attention. Tim Graham, director of media analysis for the Media Research Center, said he is not surprised.

"Nobody wants to say anything negative about homosexuals. Nobody wants to be seen on the wrong side of that issue," said Mr. Graham, who sees "political correctness" at work.
........

The muted press reaction to the Dirkhising slaying starkly contrasts with coverage of the murder of Matthew Shepard, a homosexual University of Wyoming freshman who was beaten to death last October.

Christopher D. Plumlee, deputy prosecuting attorney for Benton County, Ark., who investigated Jesse's death, admits he was a "little surprised" at the limited coverage this "horrible crime against a child" received.

Joshua Macave Brown, 22, and Davis Don Carpenter, 38, described as homosexual "lovers" in a police affidavit, have both been charged with capital murder and six counts of rape and are being held without bond in connection with Jesse's death.

.......

Mr. Plumlee would not speculate on why this slaying received such scant coverage. But "this was murder and rape in an area that has a low crime rate, a particularly low rate of violent crime. We generally don't have crimes with this degree of brutality here," he said.

He added he sees local outrage at the "torture" Jesse endured. "But I don't see outrage directed at homosexuals," he said.

News stories published about the crime, to date, have not indicated the suspects are homosexuals.

Jack Stokes, director of employee publications for Associated Press, confirmed Thursday that AP ran stories about the case on state and local wires but not on its national wires. "I do not know why the story has not moved nationally, but it's a continuing story, so that could change," he said late Thursday. AP last covered the story Oct. 11, when the two suspects were arraigned.

By contrast, the day after Mr. Shepard's Oct. 8, 1998, beating in Wyoming, the Associated Press national wire carried its first 400-word story by staff writer E.N. Smith headlined: "Openly gay student critically injured in Wyoming attack."

The next day, Oct. 10, AP produced a 700-word story with the headline: "Gay student clings to life after savage beating." On Oct. 11, AP moved a 500-word story headlined: "Call for tougher laws after attack on gay student." A search through Associated Press on-line archives showed the Shepard story was reported as a national story every day for a week following the beating.

Yat Sen-Li

Oh spare us any more of young Jason Yat-Sen Li's patronizing prattle!

He might be too young to know, but Australians have historically rejected referenda not because they were frightened by scare-mongerers as he alleges, but because they were not convinced of the need for change. That is a very big difference. It gives credit to something called common sense, and respect for one's fellow citizens' decisions.

Jason says our head of state is supposed to be above the political fray. On this we agree. That's precisely why we don't want all power going to the Executive, Jason. Ted Mack has pointed out that this republic delivers ALL power to the Executive. That's why we won't buy it. We're not 'afraid', Jason, we're 'suspicious'. That's another big difference for you to digest.

And you're right, we don't trust politicians: not about this, and not about much else either. Remember the "L.A.W. tax cuts"? Remember how Howard would "never ever introduce a GST"? Remember the secrecy surrounding the MAI? Remember the promises of the Hilmer Report?

All lies, Jason, all lies. So why should Australians be as stupid as the Murdoch empire believed they would be? Sorry, young son, with any luck it ain't gonna happen.
