International:

One of the world's most vicious crime groups the Chinese Fukienese have apparently decided to target Australia as a place to do business according to a University of Queensland researcher, Mark Craig.

Craig was recently a keynote speaker at an international Asian crime conference in the USA. The boat people who arrived illegally in Australia last week are from the Chinese province of Fujian where the Fukienese criminal triad elements controlled people smuggling, kidnapping and extortion in New York, southern California and Canada according to Craig.

"Their gangs are known as the Flying Dragons and the Fuk Ching, both recognised as among the most dangerous of the Asian gangs," he said.

"The Fukienese have been responsible for smuggling more than 100,000 people into the United States each year.

"Now it appears they have targeted Australia.

"I am not surprised a boatload of Fukienese have been caught trying to sneak into Australia.

"I have been publicly warning this could happen for at least two years.

"And it can be guaranteed if they (criminal elements) are planning to flood Australia with illegals, their Fuk Ching and Flying Dragon enforcers and snakeheads will also be here.

"When that happens - and some Fukienese criminals are already here - there will be territorial warfare, like the San Francisco feuds which left 45 dead, with the triads already established here."

It is thought that four of the world's biggest and most powerful Chinese crime groups - the Wo Sing triad, the 14K triad, the San Yee On triad, and the Big Circle Gang have been established in Australia for a number of years.

Now what was it that Pauline Hanson said about Asians and assimilating in Australia? Read that as some Asians - ie the crime groups and I believe that she has a very good point there.

The major Australian political parties are frothing themselves up into a frenzy of self-righteousness about the alleged endorsement of Pauline Hanson's One Nation party by David Duke (background info on Duke here).

Interesting that Pauline Hanson had never heard of the man until Prime Minister John Howard compared her "rise to fame" last week to that of Duke and legitimised the blatantly false implications raised about Hanson and the Ku Klux Klan by the mainstream Australian press.

Ms Hanson's adviser, David Oldfield, spelt out for the umpteenth time to a besotted mainstream press that One Nation could not stop people joining (a point not lost on the Chinese community in Melbourne) but it could and would stop any radicle members that might join from attaining any position of influence in the party.

One Nation's National Director David Ettridge said Ms Hanson's opponents peddled the "malicious deliberate distortion seeking to damage her by this asserted association".

"There is no association of any kind. The Ku Klux Klan is one of the most evil, wicked organisations on earth," he said.

Acting Prime Minister Tim Fischer said that the Ku Klux Klan endorsement was an "ugly development" in Australian politics while blatantly overlooking the fact that it was his Coalition that first compared One Nation to the white extremist group.... a move that resulted in the press seeking out David Duke for comment.

But the "Hypocrisy of the week prize" goes quite clearly to the Prime Minister's parliamentary secretary, Nick Minchin, who would have played a major advisory role in Howard making the Duke/Hanson comparison in the first place. Minchin said yesterday when asked about Duke's comments, "They (One Nation) are going to find it very difficult to prevent really quite extremist racist people moving in on that party and taking it over."

What makes this statement quite laughable is the well-publicised move by a radical Chinese newspaper in Melbourne earlier this week to call on Chinese to join to try to take over the party so that they can force it to be disbanded.... where was Minchin then - why wasn't he coming to One Nation's defence as a legitimate democratically instituted party which was now being threatened by a minority group in Australia who wanted to run their own agenda?

Who is the Chinese newspaper run by? Are they associated in any way with one of the triad organisations? If they are what influence would that have on One Nation? Does Minchin, Howard, Beazley etc... really care as long as they keep their political ambitions alive?

But his rhetoric continues with, "Everyone should be alarmed by this Mr Duke connecting himself with an Australian political party."

Surprise, surprise Mr Minchin I think that Mr Duke would have endorsed John Howard back in 1988 in his own news release, "Immigration and One Australia" issued 11/8/88. "My argument with Multiculturalism is not that it respects and tolerates diversity, but rather in many ways it emphasises division and above all, we'll get Australia working again."

The only difference then and now is that no-one went and started comparing Howard to Duke - but that is about the only difference.

In a move that has interesting implications for the Fairfax/Packer debacle stemming from the media ownership debate Packer has formed an alliance with arch Pay TV enemy Murdoch.

The big loser is Optus Vision which has been dropped like a hot cake by Packer's Publishing and Broadcasting Limited as the "bigger profit picture" grabs both the media moguls.

The move also involves Fox Pay TV's partner Telstra who earlier this week said that they were negotiation a pay out figure in the hundreds of millions of dollars to News Corporation for breaching an agreement to lay fibre optic cable to the doors of 4 million Australian homes.

Telstra is now negotiating an agreement with Optus Communications to share the cable that they have laid.

The new deal between packer and Murdoch turns Australia's media on its head as a duopoly becomes practically a monopoly as the two groups align themselves more closely.

Is this good for democracy in Australia - hardly!

Political:

The first part of a double-dissolution took place yesterday in the Senate when one of three "non-negotiable" elements in the Government's work-for-the-dole scheme was rejected.

The Senate endorsed an amendment by the Democrats to impose a 24 month limit on the scheme.

The Government rejected the move setting the double-dissolution poll trigger.

It is believed that Howard will wait until next May, after the next budget, before taking up the second step that could force the government to go to the Australian people in premature Federal elections if the motion was defeated a second time.

Howard has been told by British Prime Minister Tony Blair that reforms taken by Britain under the Tories resulted in the low levels of unemployment in the country.

The common approach by both leaders is to use the "carrot-and-stick" approach in the areas of welfare reforms.

Howard has also apparently invited Blair to Australia in 2000 to attend the Sydney Olympics.

Subject: A debased Nation

There's more to the Senator Boswell outburst than meets the eye. We are witnessing a phenomenon in this country (America too) which is as cowardly and morally debased as anything witnessed since people spat on Vietnam draftees returning from the war, an undeclared war in which their own governments fed the enemy.

The truth is that Pauline Hanson's real 'crime' is not that she is 'xenophobic' or 'racist', but that she, like Graeme Campbell, is a loyal, conservative, patriotic Australian. These people ARE NO LONGER WELCOME in this country, and the nauseating fact is that nobody, not the Prime Minister, not Senator Boswell, and certainly nobody in the Media, has had the guts, decency, or honesty to tell them.

Instead they are being demonised by the likes of Boswell, branded as 'enemies of the State', as 'racists', 'right-wing extremist rednecks' with links to this or that Leftist conspiracy-theory boogieman....Ku Klux Klan, League of Rights, Neo-Nazis....all intended to stir up public hate against them.

Loyal Australians were welcome when this Nation had to be built. They were welcome when it had to be defended in two World Wars. But now the internationalist 'Club' fancies itself in control, drunk on its vision of the blissful global Utopia, lovingly pacified by UN SWAT-style 'peace-keeping' teams. Australia as an independent nation is being sold off and sold out, yet nobody has had the decency to tell loyal Australians that that is the new official policy.

Perhaps they were expected to 'get the hint' after paid protesters spat on them and abused them for attending meetings aimed at fixing things. But they are not that easily intimidated. That sort of animal behaviour simply strengthens their resolve to repair their country, something the internationalist 'Club' could not begin to understand.

The truth is that nationalism, love of one's country, is now regarded as an embarrassment, if not an offence against the State, or even anti-social behaviour requiring 'treatment'. And nobody in this country has the guts to come out and say so. It's called moral bankruptcy!

The Courier-Mail

Dear Sir,

In the world of politics, few things are surprising, but the fact that a junior backbencher from Queensland can make headlines around Australia and the world is one of these things. Even more astonishing is that for the last year she has hardly been off the front pages, and gets more sustained media attention than veteran party leaders like Cheryl Kernot.

I realise that conflict and emotion sell papers and keep viewers watching, but it is about time that somebody pointed out the vast gap between Pauline Hanson the member for Oxley, and Pauline Hanson the media creation. Judging by some of the stories and images we see, one might expect a monster driving her Commonwealth car over Aboriginal babies, machine-gunning Asian restaurants on the way to a Ku Klux Klan branch meeting.

Yet those who attend her meetings and hear her speak find none of this, only a serious young woman concerned with the future of her country. Rather than preaching division and hatred, she asks that Australians of all origins be treated on the basis of need and not race.

She is striking a chord with this message. Her support nation-wide is twice that of the Democrats, according to the polls. Like the Democrats, she wants a halt to further immigration. Unlike them, she wants an end to the division of our country into racial enclaves. Vast areas of our country are Aboriginal lands, reserved in perpetuity. Whole suburbs are turning into expanding Chinatowns, where English is seldom heard.

This division is ongoing and visible. I, like most Australians, believe in a fair go, and welcome people from backgrounds other than Europe as new citizens, equal in rights and responsibilities. But I don't want to see our country divided. We are one nation, from Hobart to Broome, Thursday Island to Fremantle. We can change and adapt, as we've always done. But we must do it together, as Australians, equal but diverse; not as a series of racial communities, each one equal but separate.

Reality will eventually catch up with myth. The more people who listen, the more will realise that the media image is fantasy. It might not sell as many papers, but the sooner the media treat Pauline Hanson as a junior backbencher, the better.

Yours,
Peter Mackay

Subject: The Hacker

Isn't it amazing that you so called tolerant people can find it so easy to be so abusive, i.e.; abuse etc. at rallies, to other Australians for trying to listen to an opinion and form an educated opinion.

It's such a liability to have Australians with such a narrow minds, to be taken in by the media and various Political factions, who must take a lot of the blame for all this ridiculous hype, that they have exploited for their own ends.

The back lash that maybe caused is only of these people who wish to suppress what little freedom of speech we have left in Australia.

Don't worry there are still real Australians out here!

Subject: what is a refugee?

I see the refugee (silly) season is with us once again, and with it all the civil libertarians and legal hangers-on are girding their loins and filling their pockets , courtesy of the long suffering taxpayer!!

I would like to know , what is a refugee, i would imagine if i was being attacked or victimised, i would head for the closest point of safety, not look for the 3 storey home with 2 mercedes parked in the driveway!

Most our so called refugees came from Vietnam , and more recently China!

Now if one were to look at a world map , they may be forgiven for thinking that closer countries of refuge were: Taiwan, Sth. Korea, Japan, Malaysia,Singapore, cambodia, Thailand, Burma, indonesia, The Phillipines, Brunei, New Guinea even India is closer than australia and with a population more culturally similar than Australia!

so why do we persist with this farce of "refugees" and bother going thru the motions of checking their credentials, with its appeals, all the while paying to house feed and educate them!! Not to mention being sued for the privilege!! when are our elected reps going to get some backbone and turn them back, we deserve no respect and were getting none!!

aussie tourists are turned back from the UK for no other reason than the suspicion that they may work during their stay!!

Is there some perverse deal where we can only trade with Asia if we take their rubbish as well? will our trading partners accept a reciprocal deal? We could send the labour party elite for a start! They have all the answers. they may even be able to trash their economies faster than they did ours!

The shameful part of the whole exercise is that true refugees like the Timorese are being refused sanctuary to please the corrupt regime of our near northern neighbour!

The only people who have a genuine reason for claiming refugee status should be from indonesia, Timor, West Irian, New Guinea or New Zealand!!

I can hear the screams of laughter coming from our neighbours as the re-provisioned, refuelled ships leave their ports heading for the "Land of the Soft Touch" !!!

PS.Where are the incarcerated Hong Kong Vietnamese going to go now ? Are any of those countries going to accept them? Will China?....??????????????

one of the Mugs!

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Cold overnight but looks like a pleasant sunny day ahead.

Have a good one.
