[MURDER BY MEDIA, DEATH OF DEMOCRACY IN AUSTRALIA]

from an Aussie's viewpoint on Australia's first daily Internet newspaper.
Since October 1995

Divide and rule

Despite all his faults - which none of us are free of - David Oldfield played a major role in the Queensland State Election last year. Today The Courier-Mail are spinning the story that he is bitterly resented by party members - with the qualification that this comes from the Queensland MPs.

I recall sitting with the MPs in June last year while Oldfield gave freely of his time to help them deal with the media and on other issues.

How short their collective memories apparently are - in fact if they were any shorter one would have to believe that they were brain dead.

But yesterday the whipping boy, the scape goat had been identified and was being nailed to the tree for the sins of the MPs who walked out on the party. A line now being pushed by the Murdoch media - divide and rule.

Oldfield who is well known for his outbursts - God knows I have heard a few - still remains a key part of the frontline of the party. His expertise in dealing with the media in difficult situations is legend and, God help us, if we had someone with no media experience tackle the vultures hanging on the proverbial wires of communication. We would be decimated.

State leader Bill Feldman said that some people in the party had a problem with Oldfield "Mr Oldfield's not at the top of the Christmas Card list," he told reporter Jeff Sommerfeld.

The other issue which is obviously one which will be resolved at the AGM in just over two weeks is that of the constitution. Last night I spoke to David Ettridge who confirmed to me that all three executives will stand now and make their positions available - and that the executive will be expanded to five - with all five members being elected by members at the AGM.

Oldfield said last night, "The vast majority of One Nation members will be happy with the new agenda for the AGM, the conduct of the meeting and direction of the organisation following the meeting. The final arbiter in our organisation will be the membership."

In Jury Rooms, A Form of Civil Protest Grows

Here is an extract from this article:

The phenomenon takes all forms. In upstate New York, an African American man refused to join 11 other jurors in convicting black defendants of cocaine charges, saying he was sympathetic to their struggles as blacks to make ends meet. In rural Colorado, a woman refused to convict in a methamphetamine case and caused such disruption that she forced a mistrial and was convicted herself of obstructing justice. And just last year in Montgomery County, jurors in two separate trials of developer and politician Ruthann Aron objected to her even being prosecuted on murder-for-hire charges in the first place.

All things come in threes

Well, it did for me yesterday.

"Murder by Media" withdrawn from Dymocks stores:

The first I heard about this was yesterday afternoon when I had a call from a person on the Gold Coast wanting to buy the book. He had been told that the book had been withdrawn for "legal reasons". Earlier that day Anne Maher from Dymocks head office had called me to request a copy of the book - which I immediately posted to her.

I contacted Ms Maher to find out what was going on. I was told that an instruction had come from the Chairman of Dymocks that the book be taken off the shelves while the company's lawyers check it out before it was put back up. This nearly a month after it was put on Dymocks book shelves and, even more interesting, as author, publisher and distributor I have had not one complaint - legal or otherwise about the book defaming anyone.

In fact the book is the greatest contradiction in terms - just about every reporter in Australia has now apparently read it but not one word has been written about the book in any of the mainstream media.

The greatest act of censorship that I have yet seen.

The book can, of course, be purchased direct from the author by sending your cheque or payment of $27 to S Balson, P.O. Box 11, Mt Crosby News, QLD 4306 ($27 includes postage and handling).

It was my birthday - I turned 44 yesterday and had a delightful, relaxing day.

Third, for the second time in four years the Brisbane river came down in flood, and like in 1996 I am keeping historical pictures of the rising water outside my home and office in Karana Downs.

Dymocks withdrawing "Murder by Media"

Hi Scott,

Sorry to hear about Dymocks' cave-in, tho' I can understand their concern about a book cover to which the country's two richest young men might take exception. Even if they lost a defamation action, they could gain an injunction against your book and then delay proceedings until you and Dymocks ran out of $$.

One Nation MPs

Scott Balson

recieved your book, thanks for the prompt reply. I have read a few pages and already am becoming quite depressed and angry. I will do my best to tell as many as possible, particularly at ON meetings. I hope that eventually you sell more than enough to cover costs. If I had the funds I would send a copy to every politicion in the big house.

Bad news with the Q polies deserting the ranks, at meeting tonight the truth came out and as I suspected, it was premeditated, and the press only did what was expected of them with the propaganda machine going into top gear. Nelson will join the Nationals. He has been shortshifted up here. One can only hope that not to much damage has been done to the NSW elections.

Vale Lateline, has Tony Jones been lobotimised

If the maiden episode of the above programme is any indicator, ‘Auntie’ has either suffered radical budget and resource re-structuring or Mr Tony Jones has had a full-frontal lobotomy performed on him over the Chrissie break!

The focus of the premier episode for 1999 was ‘Globalisation’ with a special "insight" into the current World Economic Forum being held at Davos, Switzerland. Instead of an insightful, behind-the-scenes look at the ‘goings-on’ in this important conference, we were treated to a papparazzi-styke gee-whiz! Wow! Gosh! ‘peek-a-boo’ tittilation of bored billionaires and intellectual elites trying to fill in the time between skiing lessons!

These over-fed, over-paid and over-resourced ivory-tower SCUM couldn’t give a TOSS what happens to the nations or the ordinary, decent working-class people inhabiting them. Their main interest is in how they can further their aims of establishing a master-slave relationship: with them as the small, elite group of masters and everyone else as the slaves! These home-wreckers, job-wreckers and nation-wreckers couldn’t give a ‘RAT`S’ about the chaos that their globalised IMF/United Nations tyranny has caused to ordinary people in countries like Brazil, Indonesia, Korea and Thailand.

The mind-numbing drivel that issued from the mouth of Mr Tony Jones seems to indicate that he has descended from the heights of Laboral Party stooge and mouthpiece(re: his 1998 ‘performance’ on Four Corners) to a dribbling imbecile. At least Maxine McKew(apart from her blatant and foolish anti-Hanson bias) asked _some_ pertinent, logical and incisive questions. However, _this_ blonk lets his ‘guests’ indulge in blatant fairy-stories straight out of a Donald Duck comic!

The piece-de-resistance was Jeffrey Sachs(investment ‘adviser’/globalist mouthpiece and sometime guest of ‘LateLine’) who came out with the classic:"We’ll never have a repeat of the 1930s Depression because, back then, the money was based on gold...which caused all sorts of problems" What planet is this jerk living on? Or, more to the point, what has he been smoking? He must think that the average punter is ‘off with the fairies’ and/or has the intellectual capacity of the common or garden variety housebrick. The 1930s Depression was _deliberately caused_ by the Federal Reserve strangling the money supply by refusing to print more and restricting credit. If anything, the gold-based monetary standard _reduced_ the effects of what OTW would have been a global catastrophe.... exactly what is currently imminent. The present money supply(Legal Tender) has exactly the same net worth as the proverbial piece of toilet paper! When one or more of the big multinationals/hedge funds ‘gets the jitters’ and/or goes ‘belly up’, initiating a ‘bank run’, the true worth of the $1 bill/coin will become painfully obvious(just ask any Brazilian or Indonesian).....all courtesy of that infamous debt-monger: the IMF.

Who did the voters vote for?

I am totaly disgusted at the actions of the MP's that have tendered their resignations this week!

Who do the voters vote for?? One Nation or the MP's personaly?? I bet you wouldn't find many that even took notice of the members name on the voting card....they were voting for the policies and principals of One Nation....not the person on the card. Now these people think they have the right to walk out on One Nation and go it alone.....NOT SO!! If they don't like it, quit and get re-elected at the next election the seat should be filled with another One Nation representitive. That way the voters are still being represented by the party they voted for.

Sean Casey & Frank Luber, Hosts WCBM's Morning Show

Dear Sean & Frank,

While shaving a a few days ago and listening to your show as usual, I was surprised to hear complimentary remarks concerning the objectivity of Ruppert Murdoch's FOX network Knowing your reputation for "let the chips fall where they may" search for truth, I feel you would like to see more information asbout Murdoch's "objectivity"!. With this in mind I feel you would like some more information ion the REAL Rupert Murdoch.

Murdoch is an Australian who became a US citizen as a matter of convenience. This permits him to continue the non-objective activities of his huge media empire in Australia(and eventually if not alreadyd the USA) while paying no taxes. I could go on and on but you would best hear from another Aussie, Scott Balson, who has compiled a substantial dossier on Murdoch's Australian and other activities.

By copy of this message I am asking Scott Balson gwb@gwb.com.au, to send you some of his Murdoch dossier to you directly at WCBM. Scott is author of a recent book, "Murder by Media", in which Ruppert Murdoch and his Australian media empire tactics come in for substantial commentary. His book, "Murder by Media" was reviewed recently in Bob Djurjdevic's (USA) web site, "Truth in Media" .

Keep up the good work, guys! and

More media hypocricsy

Isn't it amazing how News Ltd are such rabid supporters of an Australian republic? Get rid of the Queen they say, Australians shouldn't be led by foreigners, especially foreigners who inherited positions of power by "an accident of birth".

Maybe these newspaper editors should take their noses out of their boss' backside long enough to recognise which foreigner inherited the leadership of their empire.

At least the Queen represents dignity, a proud tradition and noble heritage. All Murdoch (and his lackeys) can offer is distortion of the truth, 'foot in the door' journalism, and a self interested religion called "worship of the dollar".

Gweilo

I, me, mine

The one line that Scott W wrote that really got me thinking was...'Never should the collective be considered more important than the individual no matter how dressed up and good it sounds'.

Surely putting the rights of the individual above the rights of the community is exactly why our society is in a state of moral and ethical decay. eg: You can't force ME to work for the dole! What do you mean I can't adopt children because I'm in a homosexual relationship... I've got rights! You can't discipline your son madam, he has rights you know...and so it goes. How about a little less of what the individual is entitled to and more of what the community is entitled to.

Surely the bible teaches selflessness and self sacrifice over selfishness. This modern emphasis on "I,ME,MINE" is the essence of what's wrong.

PS

Hitler tried to stand up to the Commies and the Internationalists and they nailed him so well that even after fifty years we see him as the devil. I picked up an old book in a shop in Daylesford last year, Ten Great Men of Our Time by Winston Churchill. I nearly fell over when I opened it up and found a chapter on old Adolph. Obviously written pre-propaganda.

It is a mistake to idolise Hitler, but the challenge is to look at the man objectively and judge him for who he really was not the satanic image portrayed by the powerful propagandists who continue their work through the Goldhagens and Speilbergs of this world.

(Just the facts Ma'am)

Get your act together MPs

Dear Scott:

Ben Teco and other @notd readers seem to have such short memories. Wasn't Pauline Hanson elected as a representative through the party known as the Liberals? The people of Oxley didn't vote Pauline in to throw her weight around and gallop around the country moaning.

Ben doesn't seem to understand how our electoral system works - people are elected to parliament to represent their electorate and make the best decisions for it, not to simply represent the members of his or her party.

Yours faithfully,
Josh Stronach

ABC Radio

Dear Editor,

If life matters in Australia, as indeed some particular programmes on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Radio National would have us believe, we seem destined to hear much much more about the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) published by a German-origined body called Transparency International (TI) - a self appointed and unauthorised organization which has independently declared war on what it perceives as the systems of bribery and corruption.

TI is careful not to identify corrupt individuals - as a voluntary group it would not have the financial resources to defend itself against the litigation that would most assuredly flow.

Expectations are that pressure lobbies, like TI, will become the "in" thing, the current "fad", the "flavour of the month" until someone attempts to define "bribery" or "corruption" - words that mean quite different things to different people and which will be so unpalatable to politics that they will probably be excised from, or modified to suit, the pollies dictionary in the same way that ones like "treason", "sedition", "justice", "democracy" and "patriotism" have been.

Many would applaud the motives of the founders of TI but how far down the track has it travelled towards the entrenching of a hierarchial empire-building corporate bureaucracy of its own, the members of which would not, in their wildest dreams, admit to the claim that their extensive (snowballing) perks of office might legitimately constitute "corruption".

Surely IT's spokesperson put his finger on the problem when, in a recent interview, he identrified a major reason for bribery and corruption as being the unwillingness of governments and employers generally to pay a just salary/wage - or is that plenty of money to feed the stress induced habits of today's "culture"? Perhaps readers could benefit from a closer examination of the real motives and agendas of the potentially powerful influencers of the next millenium. Sincerely,

J o n M. A x t e n s
