International:

The Reserve Bank of Australia sold off two-thirds of Australia's gold reserves yesterday netting a Au$2 billion profit for the government.

Federal Treasurer Peter Costello said yesterday that gold no longer played a significant part in the international finance system. Australia has retained 80 tonnes of its 247 tonne gold stockpile.

Wonder who the buyer was? - The move causing gold to plummet Au$30 to Au$320..

A new bill of rights is to be put in place over the Australian Tax Office (ATO) Federal Treasurer Peter Costello said yesterday. The ATO promises to keep all tax information confidential and to treat people as being honest as part of the new charter. The ATO will set up a complaints office to attend to unhappy tax payers.

The Tax Commissioner, Michael Carmody, has pushed for the Charter, which was aimed at changing the negative perceptions people had of the ATO and their feeling of being powerless when being audited.

"Making people's rights widely known and being held accountable for respecting them is another important step in updating self-assessment," he said.

Yesterday we reported about the two independent newspapers which carried letters from correspondents who advocated the extermination of Aborigines in the past.

Now disaffected Pauline Hanson Support Movement co-ordinator Bruce Whiteside who attracted just 20 people to a well publicised anti-Hanson meeting a few weeks ago on the Gold Coast has claimed that the author of the letter published in Townsville, Philip Atkinson, helped to establish the Pauline Hanson movement in northern Queensland.

Funny that the man who blew the whistle, Whiteside, selected Atkinson in the first place as a volunteer. Hanson had absolutely nothing to do with his selection or involvement.

Ms Hanson yesterday distanced herself from the views of Atkinson calling them "extreme and socially dangerous".

The matter has now been handed over to the police.

"Any past involvement he may have had was related to Bruce Whiteside," Ms Hanson said.

Subject: Launch of One Nation at Newcastle

I attended the launch in Newcastle and can only describe the protesters as Dirty Scum and the biggest bunch of cowards I have ever come across. Why did they stick to their group and not follow the supporters down the street or didn't their payment cover fighting. It was quite enjoyable razzing these disgusting examples of human beings.

I love the speech, and any doubts I had of Ms Hanson have now gone. The best thing about the One Nation party is that it gives the everyday Australian a say in Australia's future, so to the party and supporters keep up the fight and to the protesters have a bath and get some clean clothes and grow up.

Dear Sir,

I have read with interest the growing amount of coverage given to the views of anti-Hanson protesters in your paper and the lack of coverage given to what Ms Hanson actually says.

I attended the launch of One Nation on the Gold Coast on Monday and was surprised at the small number of protesters (about 30 in all). This changed when two large buses arrived at about 6pm swelling protester numbers to a couple of hundred. Being a philanthropist I approached one of the protesters and asked him who had organised the buses. I was told the Anti-Racist Campaign through an organisation called Left Link.

A few key strokes on the Internet search engines took me to the Left Link web site at: The web site featured a large number of internet links that were of interest to members. These included:

I guess we know now One Nation attracts the 'extremists' - but not as members, as your paper would wrongly imply.

Sport:

Australian cricket captain Mark Taylor was skittled out for just two runs in the third Ashes test. England are in the pound seat after the first day of play with Australia on 223 for 7 - if Steve Waugh had not posted 102 not out the story would have been much worse.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Another beautiful, if cold day in paradise...

Have a great day.
