International:

Rupert Murdoch gave a frank interview on national television last night. He was interviewed by Jana Wendt, now working for Channel 7. In his first interview since the Super League decision Murdoch talked of the integrity that Cowley and his son Lauchlin have... something that the courts questioned. He also said that the issue is not over yet - it was obvious that he was smarting from the experience with Packer who was supposed to have done a private handshake agreement with Murdoch - but reneged.

Murdoch didn't question Packer's integrity directly but got pretty close to it when questioned on the issue by Wendt. It is obvious that Super League is going to continue to be pursued by Murdoch and that his dislike of Justice James Burchett who banned Super League in Australia and the Australian Rugby League board will fester like an open wound. See stories of the year for more info about the Super League fracas.

Political:

The Federal Government decided to prune the Australian Torres Strait and Islander Commission (ATSIC) yesterday after a lengthy meeting in Canberra. The chairperson, Lois O'Donoghue, has fully supported the moves but her deputy Ray Robinson (Global Gripe of the Day) is spitting chips as his position of chairperson-elect has been grounded.

Business:

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia is to be sold off with the government selling 100 million shares into the market place. This will, at today's prices bring in about Au$1 billion into the treasury. Commonwealth Bank chairman, Tim Besley, warned that this move would stall the bank's expansion into Asia in the short term.

Sport:

Geelong champion, Gary Ablett, has been cited by the Australian Football League following video evidence of an incident in a match played against St Kilda last Saturday. In the incident St Kilda's Kristian Bardsley had his voice box bruised and his chin lacerated. Seems like there were even more conflicts in the match between Collingwood and Melbourne with eight incidents being reported in this MCG match played on Easter Monday.

Personal trivia:

Another day at the Global Office today. Beautiful outside once again...
