International:

An international drug smuggling ring was smashed in a police raid off Maryborough when they boarded a boat moored in the Great Sandy Straits off the Queensland coast and a few kilometres from the drug syndicates remote bush camp.

Fourteen people were arrested after over Au$100 million worth of cannabis resin was seized.

A police spokesman said, "They (members of the syndicate) used motor boats to ferry the shipment to their camp where it was loaded into a truck".

Police were waiting when the smugglers attempted to move the cannabis out on a truck at about 1am yesterday morning.

"There was a roadblock and I think that they arrested three at the truck and the van that was following.

"Then they (the police) hit the landing point and they arrested four more people.

"Customs went out to the boat and four more people were arrested from the boat.

"After search warrants were executed four more were arrested around South East Queensland."

During the searches police found a 5000 plant marijuana plantation near Gympie. Those arrested appeared in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Political:

The Independent Member of Parliament for Oxley, Pauline Hanson, has confirmed that she would consider leading her own political team into the next Federal election.

Ms Hanson said, "Give me a month's break then I will consider it.

"The people out there are getting behind me; they're clearly saying to the Government they're not happy with the way things are going in this country.

"I am going to try to have a say and try to put more people in government and really be the people's voice."

Ms Hanson speaking to a 600 hundred strong crowd on the Gold Coast said she had been misrepresented.

"Some people have said I am a racist. This is rubbish. I am not a racist, I'm a realist. I want a fair go for all Australian, no matter where they or their parents come from.

"It's not racism that I am trying to push. It's because I am one proud patriotic Australian that loves this country... I want to keep that. I want to hold it. I want to pass it on to my children."

Ms Hanson was given a rousing reception and two standing ovations at yesterday's meeting.
