International:

Allegations of Prime Minister Paul Keating's non-disclosure of a pecuniary interest in a major Northern Territory project caused the Australian Dollar to lose more quarter of a cent. Seems like the PM can't get a trick right at the mo.

Political:

Communications Minister, Michael Lee, hit back at Media Magnate, Kerry Packer's attack on the state of the economy and on Prime Minister Paul Keating.

Business:

The fruit fly outbreak in Queensland is devastating the state's fruit industry. The banana industry has been devastated by the discovery of a single papaya fruit fly at Babinda yesterday wiping 95 per cent of North Queensland's Au$200 million banana industry from the market.

Sport:

Pakistani cricketer Salim Malek dared his Australian accusers to put up or shut up. (The Pakistani team is currently touring Australia and it has been alleged that Malek tried to bribe the Aussies to throw a game in Pakistan last year).

Social:

Australian Federal Environment Minister, John Faulkner, said yesterday that Uluru (Ayers Rock - in the heart of Australia) is a symbol of a united people in Australia. Uluru was given back to the traditional Aboriginal land owners in 1985 and is now a popular tourist destination.

Personal trivia:

What more can I say but a nother perfect day in paradise. The sun has lifted the canopy of clouds and mist from our river valley, streaks of pale blue are peering through the fluffy clouds and the birds are coming out to play. Yesterday we saw a few Little Corella parrots enjoying a free feed on our neighbours seed tray. We haven't seen them in this area before.
