International:

In this season of goodwill and Australian touch with a difference. That excellent movie "Babe" that features a baby pig who becomes a star also features one of Australia's best loved commediennes, Magda, who plays the farmers wife. Babe is good clean fun in a world gone mad!

Political:

It appears that former political heavyweight and Labor numbers man Graham Richardson is about to star in an ABC television program called "The Fixer". The program which is expected to be shown on Four Corners in February will deal with a number of allegation involving "Richo".

Business:

It appears that foreign investors are backing off from Queensland. In the 1980s Queensland was the prime real estate investment market attracting scores of mega-rich Asian investors that drove land and housing prices in areas such as the Gold Coast sky high. A measure of the fall is the auction of a 143 square metre mansion in Palm Beach for Au$1.5 million about half the cost to build the home.

Sport:

Jeff Thomson the international test bowler whose bodyline bowling cast fear into batsmen is aghast at the decision to drop Stuart Law in favour of David Boon for the one-day match against Sri Lanka on Boxing Day. Boon is weathering the worst form slump of his career with 318 runs at an average of only 17 from his last 18 innings..

Social:

Airline staff call them the little sparrows, thousands of young children in the air all over the world this Christmas flying alone because of broken homes. It is a modern phenomenon with more than 900 Australian marriages ending in divorce each week thousands of Australian children spend much of their Christmas travelling... with tears at both ends when they depart and when they depart again. Let's take a moment to think of these and other kids in our society who can't experience the joy of a true family because of separation or divorce.

Personal trivia:

Yesterday we took the family to see the film "Toy Story". It had some excellent computer animation but I was surprised that the "real people" and the bull terrier were animated as well. I would have thought that using real characters would have been far more effective than the animated portrayals. The toys were fantastic - especially the little green soldiers on their plastic bases. I remember them well. It rained the whole of yesterday. Today the sun is spearing through the clouds and the land around is waking up to what will be another beautiful sunny Queensland day.
