International:

The trade unions have claimed a hollow victory in the CRA Weipa affair with Marcel Marcau/Bob Hawke acting out the role of the modest hero with his highly skilled political savvy. In reality CRA has no desire to pull back from its contract based employment and why should they? They are a major international company and the only place that they face this farce of a Union out of control is at home in Australia. So what was the outcome of this trade union inspired rolling stoppage costing hundreds of millions of dollars? - an 8% salary rise for 71 trade union workers at Weipa.
But guess what those 71 trade union workers at Weipa are going to continue their strike adversely affecting several hundred of their contract employed colleagues.

Political:

THe Liberal opposition turned up the heat on Health Minister, Lying (MCPE) Lawrence, yesterday in Federal Parliament. In response she claimed that the Liberal State government had put together a "dirt team" to get her. Whatever happened to Penny Easton the Perth woman who committed suicide allegedly because of Lying (MCPE) Lawrence's actions as Premier?

Business:

Turbulence at the Coles Meyer AGM. The major share holders had struck the deals before the meeting and through proxies the Board/Insurance company approved directors got 90% of the vote with the independents representing the tens of thousands of mums and dads not even getting a look-in.

Sport:

The Superleague/ARL battle is becoming very, very interesting. Kerry Packer (Channel Nine TV) wants live free to air showing of the ARL to be given to Murdoch's Foxtel in exchange for the rights to show Superleague matches on Channel nine. But Optus chief put up his hand and said "Hand on a mo - those ARL live viewing rights belong to us and we aren't giving them up" (or words to that effect.) Kerry Packer is Optus' main Pay TV partner.. its a strange world of greed and power!

Social:

A new report shows that a better education including a university degree does not guarantee employment in Australia. Almost 30% of graduates are looking for work it revealed.

Personal trivia:

Spent most of yesterday up at Mount Glorious establishing the Japanese language Triumph International site on a US based server. Small world isn't it. The web is to be publicised in over 30 papers throughout Japan later this week.
Our Brisbane river is swollen and fast moving after the rains of a couple of days ago. It is at the highest point it has been in a couple of years.
