International:

Australia and Indonesia who have been verbal enemies for over 30 years have now agreed on a historic security pact. The treaty, which will be signed on Monday, followed 18 months of top secret negotiations between the two countries. The agreement has the support of the Liberal/National coalition commits the two countries to ministerial discussion on matters relating to security in the region.

Political:

The East Timorese independence movement has been angered by Australia's new security pact with Indonesia. The Liberal party support the move saying that it will ensure peace and stability in this region after Indonesian President Suharto has gone. The Australian democrate say that it should have been referred to Parliament.

Business:

CRA, the.Australian mining giant, has sought urgent meetings with the Federal Treasurer after tough new condition were set by the governnment in relation to the Au$27 billion merger with RTZ.

Sport:

Australian long distance runner Steve Managhetti could not keep up with the Kenyan's who were here to impress. And they did. With the winner beating the Zatopek 10k record and the Australian record at the same time clocking 27min 38sec.

Social:

An interesting report on house standards in Australia has shown that two thirds of people believe that washing up should be done straight after the meal and that only 3% were happy to leave it until the next day. I guess our household is in the minority .
Another report has shown that 26% of births in Australia now happen out of wedlock. This is a dramatic growth from 10% just 20 years ago.

Well its parade time in paradise. Let me explain. Parrots and other birds are parading their young in the gums on the riverbank. Paleface parrots, Kookaburras, and Butcher birds etc.. busy feeding, feeding, feeding then swooping down looking for more food and hurrying back to their young again.
