International:

Australia has recalled their envoy from Nigeria following the execution of nine in that country late last week. Multinational oil company, Shell, is blamed for the tragic deaths of Nigerian poet Mr Saro-Wiwa and eight others.

Political:

A leaked letter shows that Federal Resources Minister, David Beddall, had planned to buy votes with special "funding support" for areas in which Labor seats were marginal before the next Federal election. Last time Labor did this Ros Kelly, then Sports Minister, was dumped in what was called "the sports rorts affair."

Business:

National Australia Bank is tipped to retain the title as Australia's most profitable bank with predicted profits of Au$1.9 billion. Pity the poor old Aussie battler because we all know where those profits came from!

Sport:

The Adelaide Grand Prix was a total fizz with few cars finishing and Damon Hill easily winning. The first cricket test match between Australia and Pakistan continues today after spinner Shane Warne cut through the Pakistani team in the first inning taking 7 wickets for 23. Was it Salim Malik who, just a few days ago, said Warne was easy to bat against? Anyway Pakistan had to follow on and are now 3 for 194.

Social:

Household chores are becoming the burden of today's parents as they clean, cook, wash and iron for Australia's stay at home generation of young adults a new study has found.

Personal trivia:

It is a perfectly lovely day today. The sun is shining, the grass on the slopes opposite is emerald green after the recent rains (storms!) and the sky is a frosted blue with whisps of white cloud floating like puffy cotton balls in a still sky.
