International:

Queensland Nickel, Queensland's third largest company has been rocked with allegations from spying at its highest levels. A top executive has been sacked for allegedly passing industrial secrets worth hundreds of millions of dollars over to competitors in Brazil and Cuba.

Political:

Lawyers are threatening to strike over the payment of Health Minister Carmen Lawrence's legal bills by the tax payer. The illustrious politician accused of lying to the Royal Commission was defended by top QCs who ran up bills of nearly Au$1 million. The commission was called to investigate the suicide of a lawyer in Perth following the disclosure of private family court documents by the state Labor party in Western Australia. Carmen Lawrence was premier at the time.

Business:

Corporate compliance obligations for small business have been slashed under new rules which became law at the weekend.

Sport:

Australia had a superb day at the batting crease in Perth notching up 617 runs with wickets still to go in their match against Sri Lanka.. Opener Mark Slater top scored with 219 runs.

Social:

Australia's Catholic Bishops will consider ordaining more married deacons and female deacons to help overcome the shortage of priests in this country..

Personal trivia:
