International:

The rent-a-crowd mob were out in numbers last night at the Geelong Au$60 a plate One Nation dinner. About 500 made up mainly of hooligans who have now been identified and exposed on the Internet, tried to disrupt the event from behind a strong police barricade.

The 130 dinner guests were forced to run the gauntlet of protesters shouting "scum" and "racist". Some were jostled as they walked towards the venue. A protester who jumped the barricade and tried to enter the venue was arrested by police.

The comment of 75 year old George Gordon echoed those at the dinner "I am here to listen. The people outside should do the same."

At least one of the protesters had to be dragged there by his parents, 16 year-old Eugene Hedley saying to a reporter his parents, "dragged me to the rally".

Ms Hanson's speech had a simple message "I am a patriot not a racist".

Earlier this week an interview with Ms Hanson was published by an Indonesian news magazine "Gara News Weekly".

Under the heading "The Blonde (?) Anti-Asian" they wrote that Ms Hanson had outlined One Nation's five key objectives which included:

"We are not anti-Asia. We believe that many Asians in Australia are working hard and are polite and reliable. What we are saying is that some Asians bring their criminal ways with them to Australia."

Ms Hanson was quoted as saying that she is very optimistic about the support for One Nation saying, "Our supporters never stop coming. They are choosing us, not the other way around."

Ms Hanson was quoted as saying that she plans to win 35% of the vote in the next Federal election.

Political:

Following the immigration debacle with former Black Panther Lorenzo Ervin Prime Minister John Howard has ordered an urgent redraft of Australia's visa regulations to ensure that the comedy is not repeated.

Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock has been recalled from his tax payer paid overseas holiday in Belgrade to accelerate the completion of Cabinet papers which significantly toughen rules behind existing visa applications.

The twist comes in the onus being on applicants rather than the government being required to prove that the applicants are or are not of good character. Applicants will now have to meet specific benchmark requirements - if they fall short they will be automatically barred from entry.

Opposition immigration spokesman Duncan Kerr yesterday rejected claims that the immigration policy inherited from the Labor government was deficient saying, "The system was in good repair under Labor."

Senator Amanda Vanstone who ordered Ervin to be arrested and deported has come under considerable criticism from Kerr who said, "Surely the penny has now finally dropped with Mr Howard's order for a junior minister to return home and clean up the Vanstone-inspired mess over Lorenzo Ervin, whose case is now the source of international embarrassment to this country."

Business:

Former Reserve Bank governor Bernie Fraser renewed his public demands that the Reserve bank reduce interest rates further yesterday saying, "I think an opportunity has been missed to sneak in a fifth reduction in interest rates."

Fraser was speaking at a construction industry lunch in Melbourne.

His comments coincide with wide speculation that rates will indeed fall again because of flagging growth and the continued high rate of unemployment.

Sport:

The fourth round of the BOC Gases Australian Super Touring Car Championship is fought out this weekend at Amaroo.
