International:

The Australian Government has launched a secret diplomatic mission to rescue pilot Justin Fraser from a Somali jail.

Sources in Somalia last night revealed that high ranking United Nations chief Wayne Long had arrived in the capital of Mogadishu to urgently negotiate the release of the pilot who was sentenced to 29 years jail on Friday.

Mr Fraser, 24, was arrested on 400 counts of breaching Somali air space after he was forced, through engine failure, to land at Haddur, about 500km north west of Mogadishu about a month ago.

Somali officials have said that if a bribe of Au$600,000 is paid to to the war lords he would be released.

Political:

The Queensland State government is continuing its purge of senior bureaucrat appointments made by the Labor party. In the latest move several board members of the Queensland Events Corporation have been given the chop.

Sport:

Today was Australian Super Touring Car Chapionship day.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Well a day at Lakeside covering the Australian Super Touring Car Championship.
