International:

Wow, now wasn't that a moment that the television cameras enjoyed! Faldo and Norman hugging on the 18th green at the end of the Masters. You have to say one thing about Norman the way he played the game he might have lost one match but he certainly won millions of fans. And who can forget the interview after the game where Norman said I'll let Nick tell you what he said, if he wants to... (just before they hugged on the 18th green). Nick said "I want to hug you." Norman had tears in his eyes... Didn't the media love it! Watch the appearance money and sponsorship money climb through the roof for both.. Good move!

Political:

This has got to be one of the biggest turnarounds of all time! Australian Torres Strait and Islander Commission (ATSIC) Chairperson, Lois O'Donoghue called the new Federal Aboriginal Minister, John Herron, flippant and dull! Remember the Chairperson was the only one who appeared to support the Coalition's moves to change the administration of the pulpably corrupt ATSIC organisation. When faced by her commissioners in a meeting with the likes of Commissioner Ray Robinson I guess its not surprising.

The anger expressed by the Aboriginal commissioners follows Senator Heron's refusal to compromise on the accountability reforms that have been planned for ATSIC. Ms O'Donoghue said that she could now not rule out disruption of the Sydney 2000 Olympics by Aborigines.

Well I know a simple solution - let them pay their own way there instead of getting the tax payer to fund the trip.. you might have a handful if you are lucky!

Business:

Australian non-executive directors were underpaid and didn't put enough time into their companies former National Companies and Securities Commission Chairman, Frank Bosch, said yesterday. He said the average annual salary of a non-executive director was now Au$31,000 substantially up from the Au$10,000 of a decade ago.

Sport:

Greg Norman's stunning collapse in the final round of the US Masters losing by 5 shots after starting with a 5 stroke lead over Nick Faldo was either a most amazing reserve cycle media stunt, which I doubt, or more than just the result of a bad day at the office. The great secret is what was it?

Social:

The gap between the life expectancy of men and women is shrinking but is expected to remain greater than 5 years until well into the next century.

A report by the Bureau of Immigration, Multicultural and Population Research estimates that by the year 2041, men will live an average 79.6 years and women 84.9 years. This compares with 74.5 years and 80.4 years respectively in 1992.

Personal trivia:

Another fine day yesterday, the Triumph International site was promoted across Japan by one of our more interesting international clients. Weather wise it was beautiful with temperatures eventually reaching the late 20s, although it was cold overnight!
