International:

The horror of a madman this time with a pump action shotgun recured yesterday in the Northern Territory town of Palmerston near the capital, Darwin. In this incident three police officers were shot but not seriously injured before the police task force fired off a stun grenade and captured the man after wounding him in the right shoulder.

The man started his attack by firing indiscriminately into the air. It took police the next four hours to track the man down. When they finally caught up with him they didn't have far to go as he started firing rounds from his shotgun into three police cars parked outside the Palmerston Police Statsion.

Wonder what the gun lobby will put this one down to.

Political:

Business:

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia's move to slash interest rates on home loans has prompted an official response from all the major banks who now say that they will review their interest rates.

Metway bank spokesman, Cliff Dawson, said: "I think the interesting thing about CBA's move is that it has gone through the 10% barrier. Research has shown that that it has an effect on people to get out of the double digits."

Where to now oh master of interest rates... the Reserve Bank that has us all in it's claw.

Sport:

In the state of origin rugby union match played out last night, Queensland were all over the New South Wales team from the opening bell... yet lost the match in a cliff hanger finish!

The hero of the New South Wales team was John Eales who played an outstanding match in their 29-25 victory.

Queensland lost to Natal in the semi-finals of the Super 12 competition while New South Wales didn't get even close in making the top four, so it was quite a performance by the underdogs on their home turf in Sydney.

Social:

Police will target a number of schools after being tipped off about a drug network in certain Queensland high schools. Plain clothes police would be placed in schools as soon as possible to tackle the problem. A recent survey of year 12 students at one Brisbane high school revealed that 60% had smoked marijuana.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Low mists shrouded the valley today, but they are now clearing for what I anticipate will be another perfect day in paradise.
