International:

Two British nurses, Lucille McLauchlan and Deborah Parry, who have been arrested for the murder of Australian nurse Yvonne Gilford face death by beheading in Saudi Arabia. The two nurses are set to add to the 300 or so public beheadings that take place in Saudi Arabia each year unless her family waive "blood rights".

The Sharia, the Muslim code of law, remains one of the most complex and ruthless in the world.

For example an Egyptian was recently sentenced to 5,000 lashes to be handed out a rate of 50 per fortnight over several years.

Gilford's 59 year old brother Frank who is confused and possibly traumatised by his sister's death said that he was tired of the hounding given him by the international media... on the lookout for a cheap circulation boosting thrill.

The famous Australian drag queen Carlotta could be played by none other than Australian supermodel Elle MacPherson in an autobiography "He did it her way". It is believed that Elle MacPherson has been sent a copy of the script to view after giving the project the initial OK.

Now I gotta say this, Elle must be really hard up for work if she would consider a project so devoid of morals as a story about the life of a transsexual...

Social:

The computerised financial and health records of millions of Australians are open to abuse because of the large number of public servants who have been provided with access to them.

The concern has been raised by the Australian National Audit Office which has questioned whether the government has the ability to detect misuse of the information stored on the computer databanks.

Australian Council for Civil Liberties president Terry O'Gorman said the report indicated, "everything is in place for outsiders to access the system".

"There are a number of serious concerns raised that the Federal Privacy Commissioner's Office should immediately prepare to respond to."

Opposition justice spokesman Nick Bolkus called for an urgent investigation saying that it was further evidence of Federal bureaucracy "snubbing its nose at privacy provisions and Freedom of Information legislation".

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Soft rain fell overnight, but now it is clearing to another gorgeous Queensland day.
