Issues - The banking system under the spotlight.

International:

The Australian politicians are finding it harder and harder, like the average Aussie, to understand what is going on with the legal system. First we had the ludicrous native title decision in the Wik case, now we have the anti-discrimination tribunal fining a medical organisation Au$7,500 because they refused to put a lesbian on an IVF program!

Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer got into the fray yesterday saying, "I am totally opposed to the ruling - an extension of the IVF program - in effect to treat perfectly fertile females in many cases, something never intended in the program.

"The comment in the ruling that there has been indirect discrimination because the form dared to refer to a male partner or husband takes the cake.

"This is building on the subtle chic trend in the tribunal industry to denigrate the family and particularly the role of males.

"Enough is enough.

"Gay and lesbian couples ought to be free to lead peaceful lives but they do not have an unfettered right to gatecrash the challenge of children and deep down society knows the dangers involved."

Well said Tim.... the society we live in is strange, sick and abused in ways that the laws of the past could never conceive and would not countenance if they could.

Subject: Your Say

I agree,

Who the f*ck cares what the Yanks say about us. I'm sure they wouldn't go into meltdown if we had some 'resaerch' that bagged them, in fact I don't think they'd give a tinkers cuss. I remember, not terribly long ago, they were dumping their agricultural products, wheat in particular, into our traditional markets, despite our protests then, not a peep. Not a stoppage, not even a reason. That is how high a regard they have for us, let's return the favour. Incidentally, I believe one of the big winners in the 8% boost in exports was the wheat farmer. Good on you. I ask one question, even with this better than expected result, and the resulting political crowing and posturing, aren't we still 1.4bil in the red, in a month? From absolutely woeful to woeful isn't it?

Subject: Gun Ownership

I am looking for some help in the area of information. We here in the states are hearing things like the Australian government is taking guns etc, from lawabiding persons in your country. This is in fact being used to scare our sportsmen in this country into believing our current administration is looking toward doing the same thing to us. Can anyone there shed some light on this subject or is it all wet?

Thank you for your help

Sport:

Micahel Bevan was once again the star in the fifth test at Perth's WACA yesterday. Bevan scored an undefeated 87 before he ran out of partners late in the first day of play. Thanks to Bevan and Mark Waugh (79) the Australian team were able to muster 243 runs after the openers were dismissed for a (Matthew Hayden) duck and (Mark Taylor) two. I have wondered for some time now why the captain, Taylor, is kept on the team because he has failed dismally as a batsman in practically every one day and test match this season. Surely they can't be lugging him over to South Africa!

Best of the West Indies bowlers was Curtly Ambrose who took 5 wickets for just 43 runs.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Beautiful day once again with temperatures around the mid 20s. It was a humid night - one which we enjoyed with friends outside on the deck overlooking the Brisbane River.

Have a great day!
