International:

An Australian computer hacker has found Windows 95's achilles heel creating a custom designed virus that corrupts computer program running under that platform. Once infected the following message appears on the monitor "The taste of fame just got tastier. VLAD Australia does it again with the world's first Win 95 virus." The new virus nicknamed Boza was discovered by a British software company who say that more than 10 million Windows 95 users in Britain are now at risk. Bill Gates spent over US$200 million promoting Windows 95 worldwide.

Political - Federal Election 2nd March 1996:

Well the knives are out in Queensland now as the recriminations start. The Labor party is in shock as their loss at Mundingburra is likely to force another state election or even worse, the handing over of power through a vote taken in the seat of parliament. Queensland Labor Party president Bob Gibbs said that maverick Ken Davies would go to his grave as a despised and hated man. But hey guys, wasn't it the Labor party who dumped Davies after initially endorsing him as the candidate for Mundingburra? Guess I will never understand politics, or politicians!

Business:

Business in Queensland has demanded a full state election as the continuing uncertainty in parliament is crippling the decision making process in this state. Prominent business leaders contacted by the media were unanimous in their calls for a general State election saying that business was sick and tired of not knowing what the future held.

Sport:

In golf Welshman Ian Woosnam was the small man with a big heart at the Vines in Perth yesterday. After his 3rd round record of 65 (7 under par) Woosie finished the last round with a par 72 to finish on 277 taking out the Heineken Classic. The man at the centre of the "appearance money" row, Greg Norman failed dismally recording a tally which left him way back in the field. However, his appearance money was probably more than the winner's cheque of Au$180,000 so I guess he's not feeling to bad!

Social:

Responsible drinking reduces people's risk of heart disease, stroke and gall stones but increases their risk of throat and liver cancer an Australian study has found. Men who drank one or two standard drinks a day and women who drank up to one a day were 12% to 16% less likely to have died during the course of the study than non-drinkers. But their risk of mouth, gullet, throat and liver cancer was 26% to 83% higher than non-drinkers.

Global Gripe of the day:

Princess Di:
We hear today that the money grabbing off-shoots to the British Royal family continue to grasp madly at whatever they can get. In a country that has so many poor and disadvantaged people we are appalled to hear of Princess Di, Her Former Royal Highness, Queen Mother elect - or whatever title she wishes to be bestowed on her has become so grasping. For one "who slips out in the dead of night (like some modern day Florence Nightingale) and holds the hand of the sick and dying" she has an amazingly grasping side - the one that really stunned me was her demand that the jewellery that is normally passed on to the next Princess of Wales now stays with her. Bugger tradition. And who would be the next Princess of Wales? Her eldest son's wife - what gives Di? The public love you but if you carry on like this they certainly won't respect you.Clarence house indeed!

Personal trivia:

Well it was a little bit cooler yesterday - but not much. Today looks like being another warm day. We launched our GWBs Net Records web yesterday. It contains some fun links to the webs that set the trend on the Internet. Links will be added to weekly.
