Blair Electorate - Pauline Hanson

In March 1996 Pauline Hanson changed the political landscape in Australia forever when she was elected by the people of Oxley, as an independent, to take their concerns to Federal Parliament.

Such was her success in highlighting issues that were of concern to her constituents that voters from all over Australia rallied behind her.

From being a lone voice she suddenly found a growing groundswell of support for her mainstream Australian views which were presented to the public by the mainstream media as "racist" and "ignorant".

The media blatantly have and still do misrepresent Pauline Hanson.

Today, just over two years later she has been the focus of a new political movement, Pauline Hanson's One Nation. She has put her name to the party not because of vanity, but because people can relate to her and her well-debated views.

There can be no mistake, no confusion with the voting public. When Pauline Hanson and her One Nation party colleagues get voted in to bring the parliament back to the people there can be no more excuses by the media or the major parties.

Pauline Hanson represents pure guts and courage, the fight of the ANZAC, the pride of the digger and the desire of the okker Aussie to do what is right for her mates and her country. The historic image above captures Pauline Hanson moments after she was pelted by a mob of protesters on the night she launched her party on April 11th 1997. It was at this historic moment that I realised Australia had a chance to become the "lucky country" once again through the vision, courage and determination of Pauline Hanson.

This web page archives her battle to win the seat of Blair following a re-distribution by the Australian Electoral Commission of the seat of Oxley in 1997.

Introduction by Scott Balson, Pauline Hanson's One Nation web master.
