Assimilation does not equal "racism"

18th August 1998

As an Australian I object to the establishment of RaceWatch by the Jewish B'Nai B'rith Anti-Defamation Commission in partnership with Community Aid Abroad. A simple search on the Internet reveals the extreme discrimination of the immigration policy in Israel - policy supported by organisations like B'Nai B'rith.

The "information collecting" or outing of so-called "racist" Australians by Australians who become the secret "watchers" for this extremist politically correct group called "RaceWatch" is a blight on all that true blue Australians call dear and an affront to our highly valued freedom of speech. "Racists" found guilty by a tribunal established by RaceWatch will be added to the B'Nai B'rith database and be "outed" to the media each Friday.

RaceWatch have, without explanation, taken the term "racist" to new levels of politically correct extremism with the term now being used to embrace "those who believe that immigrants to Australia should assimilate with the mainstream population". In other words if you profess the point of view that "immigrants should assimilate" publicly you fall within the terms of reference as a "racist" according to RaceWatch's new definition.

This despite the fact that Webster's dictionary clearly defines the meaning  of racist as: based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks" 2: discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion [syn:{antiblack}, {anti-Semitic}, {anti-Semite(a)}] n : a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others [syn: {racialist}]

Extract from Pauline Hanson's Maiden Speech to Parliament on Tuesday 10th September 1996: "A racial problem is a problem which confronts two different races who live in two separate societies, even if those societies are side by side."

This statement is racist according to RaceWatch because it implies that people in Australia should assimilate.

I happen to agree with Pauline Hanson and will not be intimidated by extremists in the politically correct movement. I have, therefor, set up a page for people who are not intimidated by RaceWatch to express their points of view on this issue. A condition for being included on the page is that your real name needs to be displayed.

Please take me to "Making my stand against Racism".
