Lara Primary School Lara Primary SchoolLara is situated just off the Princes Highway, approx. 16 km. from Geelong and 60 km. from Melbourne. It is part of the City of Greater Geelong which is the second largest city in Victoria, Australia. Lara has a population of approx. 7,000. The landscape around Lara is relatively flat but to the north is the You Yangs, with Flinders Peak rising to 364 metres. Long time residents of Lara, when they have been on holidays, often remark, that when they see the You Yangs then they know that they are home. Flinders Peak takes its name from an early explorer, Matthew Flinders. He climbed the peak to view the surrounding land. Hovell Creek which flows through the town was also named after an early explorer who transited the area with his companion Hume.

Loreto CollegeLoreto College is a Catholic secondary school for girls. The school was founded in 1875 by the Loreto sisters as their first foundation in Australia. Since then it has become one of seven sister schools located in all state capitals. A student from Loreto, Ballarat, was one of the first three women accepted into University in Victoria in 1880, and Loreto Ballarat also employed the first woman graduate of Melbourne University.
