Ipswich Girls' Grammar School In 1860, when the Grammar Schools Act was put forward in the Queensland Parliament, there were no secondary schools in Queensland and very few in Australia. The Government set down an Act which said that if the townspeople of a town collected One Thousand Pounds the Government would give another Two Thousand Pounds for the establishment of a grammar school. The schools were to be secondary, non-denominational and were to have boarding components. In 1887 a committee was formed to raise money for the establishment of Ipswich Girls' Grammar.
