CINEMASCAPE AUSTRALIA, is a site dedicated to providing information on the Australian film and television production industry. These are the new re-born pages, risen from the ashes of industry bureauocracy, brighter and stronger.
Australia has a long cinematic history, which stretches back to the birth of film in the late 1800s. At the turn of the century Australia arguably had the largest film industry in the world, and is credited with the first full length feature film ever produced, The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906).
Today Australia's small but energetic production industry produces a reasonably large amount of audio-visual production both for its own domestic market, and for those aborad. International success stories of late include Strictly Ballroom, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and Crocodile Dundee, which still holds the record for the highest grossing foreign film in the US ($181 million).
