Background: Born and educated in Gympie. Fourth generation descendant of a pioneering Gympie District family. Ian has worked for Elders Pastoral at various branches throughout Queensland over a period of ten years. He followed this with an eight year stint with Thos Borthwick and Sons as senior livestock buyer and livestock manager. After five years with Primac as auctioneer and then Branch Manager Ian opened his own business, Ian Petersen and Son in Gympie in 1987.

Age: 54

Married to Bernice - four adult children and four grand children.

Proprietor Ian Petersen and Son, Auctioneers and Agents in Gympie.

Community and other activities:

• Councillor Cooloola Shire Council
• President Gympie and District Chamber of Commerce.

Interests:

• Small beef property,
• Cricket, tennis, rugby league (as player now spectator).
