Pauline Hanson's One Nation
elects Queensland Senate Team

30th August 1998, Commentary by Scott Balson, Global Web Builders

The morning had been filled with discussion and debate about the revolutionary One Nation tax policy at the Barry Jones in the Global Info-Links building in Ipswich.

It was now time for the business of selecting the Senate team of six from a large field of forty-two hopefuls. At about 12.30pm the selection committee of Pauline Hanson, Peter James and Berwin Smith left the room for a few minutes to cast their final votes on who would make up the team.

Pauline Hanson and state director Peter James came back after about five minutes and went to the front of the room.

Ms Hanson talked about how hard the selection had been with the large selection of excellent candidates before calling out their names from the papers in her hand.

The One Nation Senate team chosen by the panel:
# Team Member:
1 Heather Hill (right)
2 Len Harris
3 Sue Gordon
4 David Anning
5 Barry Evans

The photo above of Heather Hill was taken moments after she was announced as the number one candidate - a position which should ensure her election to the Senate (Queensland state Member of Parliament for Barambah Dorothy Pratt can be seen seated alongside Mrs Hill).

Heather Hill , as One Nation's first state leader, had an excellent media profile in the lead up to the state election in June narrowly missing out on the State seat of Ipswich after some dirty tricks by the local newspaper The Queensland Times. She played a major part in helping One Nation secure the eleven state seats.

The following exclusive photos of the Senate team were taken shortly after the announcement. (The media was barred from the meeting because of the closed shop discussions over the tax package).
