The "night creatures" as David Oldfield was to later call them rallied alongside the barricade. However it did not take Mr Webb long to arm himself with the megaphone and to clamber onto the barricade in defiance of what he had been told just minutes before.The police allowed the unsatisfactory situation to continue with the man on the megaphone not addressing the crowd but shouting at those just metres away going into the Prosper Australia rally in Festival Hall.
The fellow on the right (top) with his fist raised was the first to be arrested by the police when he refused to get back down off the barricade in defiance of police instructions. He responded to a police officer pushing him off the barricade for the umpteenth time by hitting him in the face.
The arrests begin.....
