City Country Alliance has completed the pre-selection process for candidates in the seats of Townsville, Thuringowa, and Mundingburra
"Ballots in those branches last night produced three outstanding candidates", said Executive Director, Ian Petersen. "In Thuringowa, Mr Brendan Bell was the successful candidate, and in Townsville Dr Pearl Fitzgerald was preselected, while we will be represented in Mundingburra by Mr Tony Dick. We are delighted to endorse them. They are very dedicated people, and I look forward to working with them in offering effective representation to the people of those electorates".
"With candidates of that calibre, backed by hard working and enthusiastic branches, I am confident they will do well", said Mr Petersen. "We have identified many of the issues that are of concern to rural and regional Queenslanders including the constituents of these electorates. We have already had considerable success at the State Parliamentary level in forcing a change of attitude by both the Coalition and the Government. They are now re-examining their stance on such things as National Competition which is just one of the underlying problems, sapping the viability of regional communities and destroying jobs. Our candidates will be strongly supporting policies which will benefit regional North Queensland".
"They will continue to work hard to improve the lot of their communities", said Mr Petersen. "They will always act, and vote in the best interests of their constituents, rather than having to "toe the party line", as has always been the case with the Nationals, Liberals, and Labor, resulting in some very bad outcomes for the people they are supposed to represent".
"The CCAQ candidates will provide the opportunity for the people to have some say in their future", he said.
