Ms Hanson was in Mackay on Friday 28th January 2000. We made the long trip into town to find out first hand what the situation is and One Nations plans for a comeback
Ms Hanson did not bother to attend the members meeting. This is something she has pulled in a number of Queensland branches. So only public meetings are to benefit from her wisdom.
While we were all waiting, more than a little irate at this cavalier treatment by the leader of our party, Senator Harris spoke at length about his role and activities of the Senate. So impressive was he that a number of members were more than ready to battle the breakaways and re affirm support for the party. Ms Hanson finally arrived and proceeded to turn the mood around. I would be most surprised if Mackay, Proserpine, Bowen or Cairns branches still exist after her tour around.
Ms Hanson is not at all interested in maintaining goodwill amongst her members. Her lecture took the form of demanding a loyalty to which neither she nor anyone else is automatically entitled and pouring vitriolic condemnation on deserters, traitors etc In fact so totally egomanic was her view of the One Nation Party I really believe that she expects to get into the Federal Senate without benefit of branches or members I don't think the party can be saved in Queensland. More to the point I doubt that Ms Hanson cares.
