Perth Graduate wins Miss Indy 1995

39,759 bytes 20 year old Fashion Design Graduate, Nina Baker of Perth, has taken out the presitigous title of Miss Indy 1995, along with $10 000 in cash and prizes.

Last night in a packed Cavill Mall, over 200 IndyCar enthusiasts were treated to a smorgasboard of talent and beauty, as over 28 finalists from around Australia and New Zealand tried to win one of the many awards on offer.

There could only be one winner of the major award of Miss Indy '95 and Miss Tourism Australia '95, and Nina Baker suroprised herself by beating all comers.

It's going to be an exciting year for Nina who will travel Australia promoting next year's IndyCar Grand Prix as well as to Malaysia to represent Australia in the Miss Tourism International Pageant.

Other prizes include a $2 000 cash contract, a $1 000 Bartercard account to spend anywhere in Australia, a holiday at the ANA HOTEL, Gold Coast, a modelling contract with Sunfit Swimwear, products from Valvoline, $500 of Bridgestone Tyres, perfume from Fragrance of Paradise, and of course she will feature in the new Racing Bodies Calender which is being shot at this year's Indycarnival.

'I never expected this,' said Nina. 'Not in my wildest drems did I think I could win the title. I'm stoked!' She has also received an offer of a modelling assignment and Video to be filmed at this year's Indy 500.'

Immediately after the announcement, Nina phoned her mother in Perth to give her the good news from a mobile phone who whilst walking through a crowd of well-wishers in the middle of the Surfers Paradise Mardi Gras. It was a wild experience and just first of the many exciting opportunities she will be able to enjoy during her reign.

She also has the distinct possibility of having the longest reign of any Miss Indy if the Gold Coast event is moved to a later date in 1996.

The Miss Indy is promoted throughout Australia and New Zealand as a marketing tool for the Indycar Grand Prix, taking the event in a real and glamorous way to many thousands of potential race goers for a period of over three months each year.

This year's event was the most successful ever, so much so that one of this year's sponsors, Bartercard, has already put its name forward for a much bigger involvement in 1996. 48,145 bytes Miss Indy, the Miss Indy runner up (Melissa Stevenson) and Miss Indy Organiser Robin Oxland proved a popular attraction on the track today!
