Racing Career:

Toronto native who has been racing since the age of nine. Won national and North American Karting championships between 1969 and 1976.

1980 - Entered Formula Ford circuit, winning Canadian Formula Ford championship. Named Canadian Racing Association driver of the year.

1981 - Won second Canadian Formula Ford championship.

1982 - Won third consecutive Canadian Formula Ford championship.

1983 - Entered Formula 2000 and Trans Am races.

1985 - Finished fourth in Pro Sports 2000 series championship.

1986 - Raced in Rothmans Porsche Cup series. Named Canadian Racing Drivers Association Driver of the Year for the second time. Entered Formula Atlantic series for Houston based Tom Mitchell Racing. In nine starts won five pole positions, five races and series crown.

1987 - Captured eighth-place finish at Toronto. Started seven Indy races. Drove Roush Mustang in Daytona 24 hours finishing third in GTO division.

1988 - Returned to Rothmans Porsche Turbo Cup series winning three of eight races and championships.

1989 - Started two Indy car races (Toronto and Road America). Also competed in three IMSA GTO races driving for factory Audi Sport team. Drove at LeMans in the Porsche Turbo Invitational. Drove MSA GTP Corvette with Jacques Villeneuve.

1990 - Earned nine Top Ten finishes in sixteen races. Voted Most Improved Driver by his IndyCar peers. Driving for MacKenzie Financial finished tenth in first Indy 500 then the highest finish for a Canadian. Scored best finish of seventh at inaugural Vancouver event. Finished thirteenth in points.

1991 - Seventh at Long Beach and Toronto. Qualified sixth at Long Beach. Scored ten point paying finishes. Started twelfth at Indy but finished twenty seventh with engine problems. Again finished thirteenth in PPG Cup points chase.

1992 - Finished second after starting last in the closest Indianapolis 500 in history - 0.043 of a second. Won Marlboro 500 becoming first Canadian to win in Indy Cars. Won most improved driver for the second time. Finished fifth in the PPG Cup. Named Driver of the Year by Canadian race Drivers Association. Co-drove to second place finish in the Daytona 24 Hour race in a Jaguar XJR-12D.

1993 - Scored first career pole position at Phoenix and then a second at Vancouver. Earned ten Top Ten finishes in sixteen races. Best finish came at Nazareth with a second place. Finished ninth in points. Named to drive Budweiser King Indy car, a 1994 Lola-Ford-Cosworth XB.

1994 - Scored second career victory at Michigan with Budweiser King Racing. Best start of the season came at Vancouver where he gridded and finished fourth.
